Sigmoidoscopy whilst on period

I cannot believe the timing. I have just started my period and have a Sigmoidoscopy booked for Monday. Anyone else been through this? I don't use tampons so will have to wear a pad. I feel SO embarrassed!! Like the procedure itself wasn't embarrassing enough I've now got to deal with this.

As long as it doesn't interfere with the procedure I wouldn't worry about it (i don't know what that procedure is about).

they've probably dealt with women on their periods many times.

I've had pelvic floor physio and every monthly appointment coincided with my period. Physio was still happy to go ahead with internal work and didn't bat an eyelid

just up the procedure. How about a moon cup?

*looked up

@mnaab Thank you for your reply. I've not used a mooncup before nor a tampon so will have to wear a pad. I was 'supposed' to be on my Period next week (I have an app to track it) so just feeling a little Confused about it all. I'll call them up to check and let them know

Thank goodness I don't have periods any more, but when I did I noticed that they always seemed to manage to adjust their schedule slightly to coincide with any time when I definitely didn't want one Thanks

I had one recently and was quite exposing as you'd imagine, I wasn't given any paper knickers with a hole in for your bum as other posts I've read here before! I was just naked! apart from my hospital gown so if I was you I would ring first thing and tell them see what they say.

WeeDangerousSpike · 24/01/2021 13:43

I've had this. I was an inpatient in hospital and came on and then they decided they needed to do a sigmoidoscopy.

When I was given the gown and shorts with a hole in to get changed into, I told the nurse I was on my period, using a pad. She advised to put gown on, but keep pants and pad on. Right at the last minute before they took me in to have it done, she gave me the heads up to swap pants for the shorts. You lie on a puppy pad type thing during the procedure anyway, so doesn't matter if you bleed a bit.

Just tell the nurse when they take you to get changed, they'll have come across it before and have a plan.

@SpudsandGravy I know...I honestly thought I wouldn't be going through this as it was supposed to start next week. Just my luck!
@kissmelittleass I called them this morning and they said it's fine to still have it done. I'm just hoping the actual procedure doesn't cause too much pain as I'm already suffering with period pain.
@WeeDangerousSpike I'm hoping they allow me to keep a pad on. But most probably with this kind of procedure they'll want it removing. Thank you for reassurance. I did not even think about being in my Period. I was more worried about the actual procedure!
