So I got my bottom back two teeth out on Wednesday (I’m writing this on Saturday) for the past month before getting them taken out I had an extremely bad abscess in one of the back teeth, my wisdom teeth didn’t have enough room in my jaw to fit on both side and so were crushing my teeth together which resulted in my back tooth cracking, this was 4 years ago and I was always so scared to get it taken out so left it to which it kept cracking and chipping until it turned into a hole and it was inside the hole that the infection lay so it was extreme pain, I was on dihydracodine for 2 weeks after nearly intoxicating myself with paracetamol and ibuprofen because I was so sore.I was also on antibiotics but finished those a week before getting it taken out so the infection started coming back, after the dentist took the tooth out he told me the infection would now drain out but it’s been 3 days and I’m still tasting it 🤢 it’s making me feel extremely sick and I’m struggling to eat because it’s not healing yet as the infection clearly isn’t away yet. Has anyone experienced this?how long does it take for the infection to drain? I’m extremely worried about developing a dry socket because of it,a horrible looking whiteish, greyish, yellowish has developed on top of the holes and I don’t know if this is normal or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds normal. Do you smoke?

I did before the infection, stopped about 3 weeks ago because the pain was so bad and haven’t touched one since!

As for more antibiotics!

I did 5 days for an infection and wasn’t enough so they gave me another 5 and cleared it!

That’s good, smoking delays healing and increases chance of dry socket. Healing wounds in your mouth do smell/taste bad and the greyish bit on the socket is probably the scab forming (good thing). Keep it clean and keep rinsing with warm salt water. Is it painful? More painful than the infection? If so that would be a sign of dry socket. Pain should be decreasing each day.

You’ve given no indication you need antibiotics .

Ah okay that has put me at ease then, no the pain isn’t worse than the infection but it’s definitely not decreasing it’s just throbbing the same as it did on the day they got taken out. I’m taking paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 and 6 hours and even at that it’s still a little uncomfortable.

Hi there. While you're waiting for the pain to settle it might be worth trying oil of cloves. I had agonising dry socket once and oil of cloves was the only thing that helped - almost immediate relief. Get it from a chemist, pour some into a saucer and dab it on liberally (into the socket) with a cotton wool bud. I hope you feel better soon x

Hey, firstly well done on getting the teeth out (I know how scary it can be). I had a lower back bottom molar out recently and it went grey also. Try to keep the area as clean as possible with regular (but gentle) salt water washes. If the pain gets worse go back to the dentist. Did the teeth come out easily or did they break? If it was a surgical removal it will be quite sore for a bit.

Dey socket is incredibly painful and you have the worse taste ever in your mouth. I had chewing gum unless I was sleeping.

Glad you got back to the dentist and got things fixed.
I've got a double extraction this week Envy

So update, I went to the dentist yesterday and I did indeed have a dry socket and a new infection, so they rinsed out the sockets, put a dressing in them and gave me more antibiotics! Thanks for everyone’s help!
