Diagnose me!

Well, my brother.

Mid 40s, slim, fittish, no known health conditions

Intense pain inside left hip, intermittent fever, feeling generally grotty, very fatigued - sleeping 20/24hrs. Currently on day 3 and it seems to be easing.

Never had anything like it before. I'm usually quite good at guess the diagnosis but I have no ideas on this one. We both would have said appendix if it was on the right side as it presents quite like an infection. Any ideas?

TIA

It's a thread on the internet as we are pondering what it might have been

But you could have spoken to a medical professional and actually had a diagnosis by now.

I always like to know how threads turn out so here goes.

The various diagnoses of doom on here proved to be useful. When I passed them on this morning that was enough to get him to call a dr even though he seems to be recovering fairly well.

The likely diagnosis is a kidney stone as there was some blood in his urine sample. Over the phone by his symptoms they thought kidney stone or grumbling appendix (with referred pain to the left side). When they saw him they were pretty sure it was a kidney stone. We are both glad it doesn't seem to be any of the more serious things suggested on here, but they did the job in getting him to call someone.

Thanks for the update, OP!

If it's a kidney stone then very good job he's now taken some advice. Hopefully it can be sorted out for him soon Thanks
