Short course steroids..

I tested positive for flu this week (baffling) & it’s really triggered off my usually pretty dormant asthma. I rarely even take my inhalers anymore as I’ve had no real problems for years, occasional wheezing with a bad cold/cough scenario.

Docs have been fab & I’m on a whack of my brown inhaler, blue inhaler as needed and a 3 day course of oral steroids.

Would 3 days of these steroids plus the steroids in my inhalers over 7 days cause my immune system to be a little lowered? Or is it too short a space of time? Obvs thinking of covid here plus DD’s nursery have had chicken pox going around .. no sign yet.

Just wondering on a scale of careful..

Thanks did any info!

Sounds like they want to stop the asthma damaging your lungs. You could ring the pharmacy to ask, they won’t mind.

Not in three days. You have to be on a dose higher than10mg a day for longer than three weeks for anything like that.
I have a high dose steroid inhaler and have been on oral steroids for nearly a year for RA.
