Sore that has appeared overnight

Couple of days ago I woke up to a sore on my nose - it felt like I'd maybe scratched it during the night.

It seems odd that it appeared so quickly, plus it's not getting any better, in fact it might be getting bigger.

I am now looking at skin cancer pictures & scaring myself, although it's probably impetigo.

Can I buy anything over the counter for this? I'm not sure I'll get a face to face appointment at the moment.

This happened to me about 4 years ago. It was cellulitis which came from a tiny scratch/insect bite on my nose. It spread rapidly over the course of a week (I saw a GP on day two) and took 2 courses of 2 different antibiotics to sort out. At one point I had to stop wearing my glasses as my nose and the skin under one eye were so swollen and sensitive. It disappeared as quickly as it arrived. I’d make an appointment with your GP to get it looked at. If it does turn out to be cellulitis, take a photo of it on your phone each day as it’s a great way to track if it’s spreading. I saw my GP every other day for a week until it started to recede and she found the photos helpful. Ofcourse, it might not be cellulitis but I thought it was worth mentioning?

Thanks - that's the other thing that came up on the google search! I don't like the sound of it - where does it come from?

Take a photo and call your doctors.

My doctors are offering phone consultations where they send you a link to a portal to upload the photo of the issue whilst you are on the phone to them. Your doctors might be running a similar system so definitely give them a call if you’re worried.

I think it comes from germs that get into the skin? Someone with more medical knowledge may correct me! I have no idea where mine came from. I went to bed and woke next morning with a small sore which got worse as the day went on. The next morning it was even bigger and was itchy/sore so I phoned the GP who agreed to see me on the basis that it might be cellulitis. Where it came from, I have no idea.

Germs that get into the bloodstream via a break in the skin is what I meant to say!

A zit?

Track the size and shape with photos. Maybe call the doctor if it's not improved in a couple of weeks.

greyinganddecaying · 21/01/2021 17:25

Definitely not a regular zit Smile

I've taken a photo but it's not very clear, hopefully that'll give the gp enough information. Apparently both impetigo & cellulitis are treated by the same antibiotics, so if they prescribe that it should sort it out.

Yes, mine definitely didn’t look like a zit either. It was definitely a “sore” Good luck & I hope it’s better soon.
