Why is my face so swollen and puffy?

I have always suffered with occasional puffy face and swollen abdomen. I used to be able to make it go away by eating really well, no wheat or sugar and lots of vegetables and drinking lots of water. This has stopped working lately and all over Christmas and ever since I have looked very swollen in the face and stomach, despite being on the thinner side for me.

At 47, I think I am peri menopausal (although my GP ruled it out due to still having regular periods, I have a few of the other symptoms). I have had occasional bouts of gallbladder pain in the past which has made me very puffy but this went away when the pain did. I have just had a full blood screen and have slightly low iron and vitamin d for which I am now supplementing. 2018 I had a full scan to check my ovaries. My thyroid test was well within the bounds of normal (about 1.28).

I am getting a bit down about it now - I know it is the middle of a pandemic so I don’t want to bother the doctor with such a minor symptom, but I look AWFUL, as if I have put on a great deal of weight but I haven’t. Also no bread, sugar etc is terribly dull and I feel cheated that I look so bad when I am doing everything I can.

I would be going back and I would be asking them to check for ovarian cancer, it's the one thing I would want rules out. Just because things were fine 2 years ago doesn't mean they are now.

I assume you have a bloated stomach as well as a puffy face?

Yes I do have a bloated stomach but it is under my rib cage rather than lower down?

I did recently have bloods done for ovarian cancer which were fine, but I know this is not conclusive.

Thanks for the reply - I will certainly talk to my gp
