Hi anyone got any advice on vulvar discomfort and redness ? Feel like I the only one has this problem and it really gets me down.

Same here :(. How long has yours been going on and have you been checked for STIs and had regular swabs done?

Helenastro21 · 19/01/2021 19:26

Yes all been done years ago and all ok. Have seen a dermatologist several times and given different creams which help but it never completely goes away 😔

Could it be vulvodynia? Nerve pain medication could help.

Wireless77 · 19/01/2021 19:42

Indeed, if all tests/swabs are negative and skin issues have been ruled out, seeing a vulvodynia specialist might be an answer. If it's nerve pain, there are good medications out there that help. If your symptoms resemble thrush/tend to get worse after ovulation and before your period, look up cytolytic vaginosis.

I am on medication for facial nerve pain but this is different. Red inflamed areas and burning pain !

Burning pain does usually indicate nerve pain. What medication are you on already?

Helenastro21 · 21/01/2021 11:14

Tegretol small dose because it’s hard to tolerate. Don’t think it’s nerve pain. Think it’s a skin problem but they’ve discharged me from the clinic cos nothing else to try which is depressing for me 😔

Look up Lichen Sclerosis. I had burning pain and it turned out to be this.

Helenastro21 · 21/01/2021 21:49

Can I ask what you use and does it help ?

I was diagnosed by my doctor and prescribed this. Yes it does help. There is a regime of use to follow which brings down the level of pain and keeps the skin condition under control. There is a wonderful fb group which I was directed to as well.

Vulvar pain

Yup. I was miss diagnosed with lichen sclerosis and a consultant confirmed I didn’t have it. I was told to wash with dermol 500 lotion once a day and then use diprobase ointment twice a day. I used it inside as well a few inches before my period as it was always worse a couple of days before.

Anyway I’m fine now, I have a little flare up once every few months before my period but nothing like before. At its worst I couldn’t wear underwear for several months as it was too painful and I used to drop the kids to school then come and lay legs akimbo on my bed!

sadie9 · 22/01/2021 09:11

I had exact same then after many doc visits and being wrongly diagnosed and treated for chronic thrush for months abd months, a different doc gave me Betnovate ointment which instantly was the answer to my suffering. Mine was diagnosed as localised eczema. I used to have to get up at night and try to sluice warm water on it and then take painkillers so I could sleep.

smoothchange · 22/01/2021 09:13

Genital psoriasis? I also use Dermovate for it but I get the cream, not ointment.

uptheduffy · 22/01/2021 09:16

My dsis had similar - bathing in Oilatum Plus regularly made a big difference, more than steroid cream and other stuff she'd tried. She was told it was plasma cell vulvitis.

Helenastro21 · 22/01/2021 14:16

Thanks for your reply. Can I ask about the fb group ? You feel v isolated with this because I don’t really have anyone to talk to about it. Bit personal for friends and husband wouldn’t have a clue lol !

Have tried that but only helped for a while.

Hi did you ever find out what caused this? I too have lichen sclerosis but it never has caused red inflamed burning for me ever, I've only ever had an itch and white patches with it, steroid cream also does not help this new problem I have it makes it more angry😩
