Has anyone tried Valerian Root. It’s the herb that’s in Nytol. I’m thinking of trying it today, having trouble sleeping. I’m wondering if anyone has had immediate success with it? I’m desperate to get better sleep.

I've tried valerian tea but it did nothing sorry to say. With Nytol one a night I'm guaranteed to stay asleep at least 6 hours, still takes me ages to drop off but once I'm gone that it. Not tried the herbal version. I recently bought melatonin which knocked me out within about 20 mins, but I still woke up in the early hours and couldn't go back to sleep. I need to experiment with my dose for that.

I don't like the taste of it but it will work over time. Like a lot of medication it needs to be used regularly before you really feel the effects. Do you have an ipod because what works for me is listening to relaxing sounds as I lay in bed. Rainfall usually or waves. You can download them all off youtube. It might be worth trying. Look up ASMR too.

Thanks everyone. I’ve looked up ASMR and am going to try that tonight if need be. I fall asleep ok, but then wake in the night and can’t get back to sleep. I’ve chosen an ASMR YouTube talk to listen tonight.

Update: I took Valerian root, and about 40 mins later felt a sense of relaxation, also found it hard to keep my eyes open. It still took me a while to fall asleep and unfortunately I woke in the night with a terrible stomach ache, I couldn’t sleep because of this, I then felt very nauseous, I retched (nothing came up). Sorry maybe too much information. I eventually fell asleep. I’m never going to take it again. I’ll never know if it was the valerian that caused the tummy ache/nausea. I also tried listening to the YouTube speaker, but it just irritated me.
