Bum issues

I promise I'm not a poo troll. Been around for years but rarely post.

Background: 2 years ago I started suffering with constant diarrhoea, I ignored it for several weeks before I saw my GP. She did bloods, stool sample (all OK) and then I had a colonscopy - again all clear thank goodness. The ongoing poos had caused a fissure and thrombosed haemorrhoid which were fixed about 14 months ago. I was given a dx of IBS but aside from loose stools I have no other symptoms; maybe gassier than I used to be but not really bloated or in pain.

I got put on venlafexin for anxiety issues in the summer and randomly my stools got better but recently it's got worse again.
I still have diarrhoea nearly all the time, I feel like I need a poo all the time, I feel like I don't empty my bowel properly, I'm uncomfortable and I'm miserable.

Doc isn't interested. I've literally googled everything, I don't think it's haemorrhoids as not itchy or blood but my bum feels swollen all the time - rectocele? Impacted bowels? An issue with my digestion? I'm totally stumped and don't know what to think. For reference I'm 42, healthy weight, good diet but prob too much wine! Thanks for reading.

Ive had similar problems over the past year and like you colonoscopy showed nothing serious. I think its probably a case of some food intolerance and trying to find out what! Ive been drinking too much wine which i dont think helps so trying to cut that down.

However if you cant find any way to ease it you might need to go back to the dr and ask to be referred again. Good luck.

Could be a food intolerance? I've had awful IBS symptoms for 20 years and discovered during lockdown that actually I don't have IBS but I'm extremely intolerant of egg. Egg is in pretty much everything, which explains why I could never pinpoint what might be causing the diarrhoea but things have improved hugely - I've not had a bad stomach since I cut egg out of my diet completely.

I have similar symptoms to you. The constant ache of feeling like I need to go. I had a diagnosis of IBS too and had appointments (telephone) with a nutritionalist. But I had an X-ray in September (even after giving birth three times, this was undignified) and they diagnosed a rectocele. I've got another appointment in feb, though this will probably be cancelled, but in the meantime have been told to take fybrogel and use glycerine suppositories whenever needed.

Could your anxiety meds need adjusting? It may be you’ve become tolerant to the dose.

I have a similar issue. I take 225 g of venlafaxine and have done for several years. I seem not to be able to empty my bowels without the help of a laxative. The issue comes and goes but I am always aware of it. I do not know if it is anything to do with the medication?
