swollen itchy ankle this evening - any ideas?

at about 6pm i suddenly had the urge to scratch my ankle - mad itching like when i was pg, coudlnt leave it alone. i was wearing socks and took them off. now my ankle is really sore - right foot, on inside with a kind of angry surface rash. have taken an anti histamine. anyone any ideas what it might be and what i could do for it? am flying tomorrow night and could do without it!

had to go to the drs this morning as the swelling hasnt gone down. they said its either an allergic reaction to something i've come into contact with as they can find no bite, or it could be an infection, in which case it wont improve and i'll have to go back. itchiness mostly indicates an allergy though.
