Shadow on xray

I know no-one can give me definitive answers on this, but just hoping for a few personal experiences. My lovely FIL has had a head cold that's been hanging around for months. He's also had a nasty cough. He had a chest x-ray which has showed a small shadow on it, and so has been referred for an urgent CT scan. He's a long term smoker which doesn't help. We are trying not to worry, but it's hard not too think worst case scenario.

I had an x-ray done many years ago for visa purposes, the x-ray came back with comments- pulmonary shadow. I did not have any symptoms or issues. I asked the doctor what it could and was told it is because of secondary smoking. My father use to smoke when I was kid. In your FIL' case it could be caused by primary smoking which needs to be investigated further.

My father had this. In his case it didn’t turn out to be great news as it was cancer - but he went on to treat it and is now totally fine.
But before it got to that stage there were multiple things it could have been.

It could easily be an infection.
Or scarring,
A benign tumour
Tuberculosis

When is his CT? I hope he doesn’t have to wait long..

Thank you, and I'm glad your dad is ok now. No date for the scan yet but should be within the next week or so as it's been referred urgently.

Ok. Well please keep us updated.
There are lots of minor thugs it could be but unfortunately it does take a while to clarify..
