Constipation

I'm suffering with constipation.

I took dulcolax last night and again this morning. No effects as yet. Just stomach pain.

I have the sensation of being full and needing to evacuate but nothing comes out.

With the bank holiday and weekend looming, I think I need to visit the pharmacy again. What do I need? Softener? Suppositories?

I'm drinking lots and eating prunes and dried apricots. No appetite.

I'd go for glycerine suppositories for emergency relief. They are not something to rely on but they act quickly and effectively.

Thanks. Will try and get some.

Lactulose is excellent, takes a day or so to work, but its really problem solving.

Whenwillow · 31/12/2020 15:49

Yes, talk to pharmacist if you can, but agree that suppositories are good for an emergency, then lactulose as a more ongoing way to soften the stools.
Are you taking any painkillers? Co-codamol has such a way of bunging people up that GPs will sometimes prescribed the 2 together.

thebluehen · 31/12/2020 16:53

No, no pain killers.

I think it's must just be all the rich Christmas food.

I've had a few times like this in my life.

The suppositories didn't work.

Sent DP out now to get stool softener.

🙄

How frustrating! If the stool softener doesn't work you would be best speaking to a GP. I hope you feel more comfortable soon!

thebluehen · 01/01/2021 10:35

Thanks. Yes, I am trying my best to avoid seeing a doctor but think I might have to if this doesn't work.

An espresso, a cigarette and a walk round the block.
Not v healthy but it works!
