I have a mole that has very quickly come up and has a red/pink surface around it. Would you bother your GP for an opinion?

Yes I think I would, it’s probably fine but better to have it checked out sooner rather than later. X

Purplethrow · 30/12/2020 20:49

Has it always been there? Just wondering if it’s maybe a tick, if it hasn’t.

TheoriginalLEM · 30/12/2020 20:50

That is most definitely not a tick

Haggisfish · 30/12/2020 20:51

Yes I would. Is it an area that has been exposed to sun?

Unreasonabubble · 30/12/2020 20:52

No it has never been there before, or, if it was, it was completely flat and I had never noticed it. I noticed it because it started to itch and then I realised it was just growing and growing!

Yes it would have been exposed to the sun as I am a sporty person and spend many summers sailing.

Absolutely yes. Call tomorrow.

Nsns · 30/12/2020 20:55

I think it would be a good idea to get this looked at as soon as you can.

Purplethrow · 30/12/2020 21:04

TheoriginalLEM I’m on my phone and pictures aren’t very clear . It definitely needs looking at though.

Haggisfish · 30/12/2020 21:22

Yep definite Gp and stress sun exposure itching and redness.

Enidblyton1 · 30/12/2020 21:27

Definitely yes. Call first thing tomorrow and push for an appointment asap. It’s probably nothing and I don’t want to worry you, but if it is melanoma it needs to be seen straight away.

JamieLeesCurtains · 30/12/2020 21:42

Yes, please do get that checked.

Unreasonabubble · 31/12/2020 17:51

I sent photos to the GP this morning and this is the message back:
"It looks more like a warty lesion than a mole, perhaps with a secondary infection given the redness around it".

Antibiotic cream has been prescribed and to use for 7-10 days then take more photos.

Great news that the GP responded so quickly. Hopefully the GP is correct and the cream works. So hard to diagnose from a photo. I had really a dry, itchy patch of skin during the first lockdown and was asked to send a photo to the surgery. GP wasn’t sure based on photo so was going to say ‘wait and see’. But then I suggested Impetigo so he prescribed me some cream and it cleared up. If I hadn’t made a suggestion, I think I’d have been returning a few days later with much worse skin!

If nothing changes after a week I’d be straight back in there asking for an in-person appointment - just in case!
