Breast cyst pain

2 months ago one of my breasts suddenly became painful and swollen and I thought I could feel a small lump. I went to the breast clinic and they found a few "small" cysts. Mammogram was clear and cysts were considered benign on ultrasound.

I was told to use ibuprofen gel for the pain which helps a bit. But the pain is fairly constant, although worse in the evening and at night. I have health anxiety so even after the scan was clear I'm still really scared of cancer and the constant pain means I can't switch off from it.

Do I just have to put up with this pain forever? Will it ever get better? Is there a point at which I should start to worry?

Would love any reassurance from anyone who has experienced the same, especially tales of cysts going away all by themselves, which would be best case scenario!

I get the same issue and have been looking into how to prevent and cure them. They do come and go.
I suspect it's linked to my arseways hormones 🙄( have endometriosis) and am hoping to make improvements. 🤞
I heard iodine is good and am looking into how to use it for that purpose. Also , liver cleansing foods and herbs may likely help

I’m in exactly the same situation. Once the tests came back as benign cysts there wasn’t anything else done but it still hurts all the time

@CatsBooksAndCoffee thanks for the links, will have a read. I already avoid caffeine, take vitamins, Omega 3 oil and Starflower oil and eat pretty healthily. I have PCOS so blame my weird hormones too.

@ShrimpSymphonyofSeasonalSongs did they give you any advice about the pain? What to take? Whether it is likely to get worse, stay the same or get better?

I find it really hard not to worry when there is a constant painful reminder that something isn't right. Does help that a friend was just diagnosed with breast cancer.

I'm not sure this will help, but for what it's worth,my sister had some type of cysts ( not breast ones) and hers went when she stopped using laundry softener and switched to an eco detergent plus white vinegar for the softener. I already don't use those harsh laundry products as they're loaded with too much cack ,though I do still get cysts.. . 🙄 Will definitely try the iodine and see if that helps.The ladies in the link I previously posted have some wonderful reports of successes and great advice. I'm the same as you. Simple cyst on ultrasound but still pain. Hard to switch off due to HA but getting there.. you are not alone!

I have this too. Confused about the iodine mentioned above as I'm worried that too much is dangerous. I just checked and there is already iodine in my multivitamins.

I also recently had a CT scan with iodine contrast and an iodine drink so was pumped full of massive levels and saw no change. But maybe because it was a one off?

Does anyone have experience of them just going away by themselves? My breast is so swollen and painful I have had to stop going running

I had painful lumpy breasts earlier this year and got them checked to be told that were cysts. They suggested cutting out caffeine which I tried, no difference. Then I stopped wearing underwired bras and the pain has gone ever since, might but be connected. Another suggestion I was planning to try was taking evening primrose.

I already take starflower oil (higher levels of whatever it is than evening primrose) and i wear those sloggi seamless bras which are so comfortable. Dont have caffeine either. Except in chocolate...oh no I don't have to give up chocolate do I?!

Have you tried agnus castus? My breast surgeon recommended it to me for painful cysts. Far more effective than evening primrose or starflower apparently.

My left boob is full of cysts. There is the big mothership cyst, which isn't painful, but another smaller once gets painful. I take vit E and evening primrose and wear an underwire bra.

I've had them for decades. One time, I decided to get the painful one drained, but when I showed up for the procedure, it had receded, so didn't do it. Couldn't do it. They couldn't even identify it.

They come and go - change sizes. I do not have pain every day - or even most days now. It was related to my periods when I still had periods. I am on HRT now, so not sure my cycle, but the painful one seems to still cycle. It's only painful a few days a month - more if I don't wear a full support bra.

It does trigger health anxiety, but it's not really anything.

Just told me to buy it from a health food shop - so I just followed the instructions on the bottle!
