Urgent MRI - experiences...?

I've been referred by my GP for an urgent MRI scan due to some symptoms I've been having for the last 4 months including dizziness/feeling like I could collapse, pulsatile tinnitus, headaches and tightness and swelling around my right carotid artery, which also bounds visibly through the skin.
Keen to hear experiences from others who have been urgently referred. How long was your wait (GP said it should be within two weeks) and how long did it take for your results?

I had an urgent CAT scan then later an MRI. Results from both were fast - scan Friday results Monday.

That's good. I'm just hoping that I get an appointment date soon. I'm feeling so strange in my head with the dizziness and wooziness. Having trouble functioning at the moment.

Hope so too - waiting for tests and results is very stressful.

Had mine the next day.

When I went, there had been 4 cancellations for booked MRIs Shock Shock

I had mine the next day too. I suppose if you've been having your symptoms for 4 months then they didn't feel it was an 'emergency'.

It's very very tough getting scan appts at the moment - within 2 weeks would need to be an urgent referral. My urgent Cat was 4 days.

I had a referral, MRI was last week (3 weeks after referral), apparently my results will be within 10 days. Super quick!

RaeCJ82 · 21/12/2020 18:15

The referral was put in as urgent. Did everyone just receive a phone call in the days leading up to the scan to give them their appointment details?

MRI takes a while and it's very noisy. Lots of whirs and funny noises. You could quite easily get a phone call offering you a slot.

I waited two years for an MRI scan due to NHS incompetence. In fact i only had it a couple of weeks back. I still have heard nothing from them re results.

RaeCJ82 · 21/12/2020 21:05

Two years...? That's absolutely ridiculous!

Yes it is and its a catalogue of denial, being passed from one department to another, lost records, revisits etc .I finally was sent to a private scanner company a couple of weeks ago . A much better experience. I've still to hear from the national procrastination service regarding results..

RaeCJ82 · 23/12/2020 13:36

Just had a phone call and my scan has been arranged for Monday.

My urgent scan was done inside a week and results were back in 48 hours.
