Strange reaction to caffeine

Does anyone have a bad reaction to caffeine? I'm fine with instant coffee and drink lots of tea daily but I met a friend for a coffee and a walk today and I came over so funny. I became hot and clammy, dizzy, and like I was outside my own body. It's hard to describe but it has taken me hours to get over it. I almost felt drunk and couldn't focus. It was the strangest sensation and absolutely horrible

Since my thyroid went on the rampage I’ve had to seriously restrict caffeine. Also found out through DNA testing (health, traits etc) I’m very very very slow at metabolising caffeine - which I could have worked out for myself tbh because I can’t sleep if I consume any beyond one shot first thing.

Could it be a thyroid thing?

I'm like that if I drink coffee and then it gives me a migraine. Haven't had coffee in over thirty years because of this.

I haven't been able to have caffeine for years as it started making me feel sick after a bout of stomach issues. I've never gone back to it.

I get this with coffee (fine with tea!) - I think it's an adrenaline spike which causes the heat and dizziness, I also get panic attack type symptoms that feel a bit like an out of body experience - hence why I now avoid everything except decaf!

I'm fine with filter coffee but cannot have instant or espresso based coffee. makes my heart race and my hands jittery.

DH has a similar thing, it makes him vomit, then jittery & grumpy. It makes me feel nauseous, lightheaded, pins & needles in my hands & feet, & gives me a migraine, so we just have decaff in the house now.

Oh yes! I had a coffee once on the ferry to France and experienced exactly what you are describing. This out of body feeling like your arms and legs are moving bit you don't really control them.

Definitely the xcaffeine when you are not used to it.

SpamIAm · 14/12/2020 13:05

Yeah it's just that the coffee will have contained a lot more caffeine than instant. Maybe go for a single shot or decaf next time.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 14/12/2020 13:08

This happened to me once (funnily enough it was a MN meet) I drink instant all the time but met at Costa, It took me all day to get over I felt so bad. Safe to say I've never been back to costa.

I get this with caffeine too - can't drink anything with caffeine. Coffee tea or coke all give that horrid feeling you describe.
