How long for milk to dry up?

Have tried feeding topic with no luck yet so thought I'd try here too....

I've stopped feeding dd2 (13months) for the last ten days and my boobs especially the right one are still very sore. She was only on one feed at night so my supply wasn't huge. I was pg when stopped feeding dd1 so never really had this problem before. I'm not engorged or anything, they seem quite empty tbh, just very sore to touch. Any advice?

i have no experience of this, sorry, just stopping feeding my own 12.5mth old at moment! but check with a breastfeeding counsellor, look on La Leche League website, or Kellymom for advice. that doesn't sound normal, could you have a blocked duct/infection?
didn't want you not answered but sorry can't be much help.

When i stopped feeding dd1 (at 9.5 months), even though i thought i'd cut down gradually over a couple of months, I had a good week of very sore engorged breasts. It is uncomfortable and I found expressing just a tiny bit of milk helped ease the discomfort. If it carries on I'd check with a GP or bf counsellor, just to make sure you don't have a blocked duct. Hope it settles down for you soon.

Ages! I found that I leaked around newborns for weeks and weeks after. The heavy feeling went much faster though, so it shouldn't be long now for you.

i stopped bf my ds at 10 mo and definitely felt pretty sore for about a week, maybe a bit more. I didn't express any in case it made me produce more! If it carries on i agree with Mac that you should see a dr about a blocked duct. Hope it eases soon!

my lo stopped and my breasts just starting to feel sore and engorged. does anyone know what the cabbage leaves trick is?

MaeBee · 23/10/2007 09:22

ok just got this from kellymom:

Cabbage leaves may help your breasts feel more comfortable. Cut out the thick stem and cover your breast with cold leaves, stem end down. Leave the nipple uncovered. Change the leaf at each feed (or when the leaf goes limp). Stop as soon as your breasts feel comfortable. Using them for more than a short time may decrease your milk supply too much. If weaning you might use them for a longer time.

im going to try it today.

There is a definite lump where I am sore so it might be a blocked duct. Have been massaging it. If its still there in a few days I will seek advice, definitely seems to be getting sorer, can't lie on front now at all or hold lo on that side.

ive been blocked before and found expressing whilst massaging the area really helped clear it up in no time. also paracetomol helped the inflammation.
mine like rocks at the moment!
