Urgent blood test time frame?

If something serious is suspected when are blood tests arranged for?

Ive been given the ‘next available appointment’ which is 22nd December. If they thought it was something sinister would it be sooner than this or does that not come into it?

I suppose it depends what sort of serious tbh. I’ve had patients squeezed in with me straight after seeing the Dr if they suspect something serious & urgent bloods are needed, if it was after the collection time for the samples, it would be next day. Our Drs would book the blood test slot themselves if they want the patient to have the BT soon, they wouldn’t leave the patient to book it with reception.

Where is the appointment? At your own GP surgery or is there a separate phlebotomy service at the hospital? If you are concerned could you book a telephone consultation with the Dr to discuss it or drop a note off to the surgery for their attention expressing your concern? I hope everything turns out okay for you Flowers

The dr booked it themselves at my own GP surgery. Im worried about suspected Leukemia but its 11 days away not urgent? Thankyou.

Why do you suspect leukaemia?

I would have thought they would have done it a bit faster.

I have a lot of unexplained bruises on my legs and have lost weight recently.

I’ve lost my tea break many a time because a Dr has squeezed a patient in for far less urgent bloods than suspected leukaemia so I’m thinking it’s possible your Dr is less concerned or they wouldn’t have just waited for the next available slot? Try not to worry, not easy I know, but there could be other causes.

They’ve asked for me to arrange 48 hour telephone consultation for after the test which I’ve never experienced before but this is a new doctor. Not sure what that means?

DP's were taken at the surgery that day, results came through within 24 hours.

hopeishere · 12/12/2020 08:10

Well it's just a follow up and assuming they are seeing fewer people face to face it's their way of getting organised.

When DP began his blood cancer journey we got a phone call that evening from the GP as they had spotted issues with his bloods.

@worried63xx did you speak to the Dr Christmas Eve about your results?
I hope everything was okay Flowers
