Coccydynia

Hi all,
I wondered if anybody to help me at all. I’ve suffered with pain in my coccyx for two years now. If I sit for 5 minutes it feels like I been sat for 50 hours. It’s so uncomfortable, like a real heavy dull ache but only when driving, sitting and lying on my back. As soon as I’m off the area and there’s no pressure it’s absolutely fine, however I can not relax! I’ve been to see everyone possible for this.
Recently I saw a consultant who said I had coccydynia, I have not had a fall or anything but he said you can still get this without a fall. After trying everything else, I took his advice and had a MUA and a steroid injection. 4 weeks later and it’s no better, it’s actually worse. I feel like all my muscles around the area are trying to protect the coccyx so I have pain in a larger area now.
Has anybody else had the same experience? Could you please offer me some advice?
It’s making me so miserable and frustrated.
Thank you x

Get a cushion which takes pressure off your coccyx. I have one and it really has helped me when sitting at the table. My pain eventually went but it took a good 6 months of more.

I had this many years back and after chiropractic treatment, 2 steroid injections (ouch!) Sitting on donut cushions, nothing worked. I ended up having a coccygectomy, my coccyx was removed and I have been pain free ever since. It's been 16 years. My case was like yours, no injury. It just came in suddenly while I was on a flight to the US!

I know I'm a bit late to the game here, but I've had coccyx pain since April after a fall, had one injection earlier this week and my pain has improved mayyyybe 40%. I still have coccyx pain and hip pain when I lie in bed. Am wondering whether another injection will fix it or whether I'll end up having it out. My consultant is reluctant to take it out as he says the infection risk is high, but hearing you say your removal was so successful and that you are pain free gives me hope!
