Post nasal drip

My GP diagnosed this about 2 years ago, and I hadn't had it before that. Now it's still there, constant, and such a nuisance (and embarrassing). Coughing frequently, throat clearing etc (worse in the mornings). Obviously right now it's not cool to cough Confused
I've tried eliminating dairy, I don't want to eliminate the dog. But I'd love to know the cause. Does anyone else have this? If so, do you know the cause and have you been successful in getting rid of it?

It's dairy that does it for me, also dust and hayfever allergies make it worse but the persistent issue was eliminated with the majority of dairy. Do you use a nasal spray?

Literallyfedup · 09/12/2020 10:34

As pp said you need a nasal spray to keep it under control. I always have digestive symptoms when something triggers my post nasal drip. It's either bloating plus feeling breathless or silent reflux. The digestive symptoms are there irrespective of environmental triggers or food sensitivities. DH has bloating and breathing issues with food sensitivities and post nasal drip but not with environmental factors.

I have this. Could possibly be LPR have a Google and see if it matches your symptoms?

AlwaysLatte - I have its all my life and is caused by nasal polyps , did they check this for you ?this is also caused by allergens , pollution etc.

I have this im quite drippy atm and the cough isn't great I've had glares! I take clarityn at night if it's bad helps a lot. I have a few allergies I think its to do with that.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 11:16

oh I get bloated and breathless but I've never associated it with my nose/ cough are they connected?

blue25 · 09/12/2020 11:20

Stomach & sinuses are definitely related. Often linked to inflammation. I’ve cut out sugar, alcohol etc. to reduce inflammation in my body. My symptoms have pretty much gone. It’s just hard to keep up the healthy diet!

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 11:24

I have a disability that affects my bowel function so I put the bloating to that but I really didn't know about the sinus connection never occurred to me.

DeadBod · 09/12/2020 11:33

The drip causes the excess acid in the stomach which then causes the cough.
I usually cut out dairy and citrus and try to limit my intake of coffee, sweets and alcohol.
I've had sinus problems for years and the nasal drip has been around for the last 4 years.
The doctor has prescribed Lanzoprazol to relieve the acid/coughing but the coughing seems to have escalated lately so he's upped my intake and given me a nasal spray.

It all makes so much sense to me.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 12:03

Now* half an hour ago oblivious and munching a gaviscon !

DeadBod · 09/12/2020 12:26

@Mrsjayy it was a friend who joined the dots for me and then it all made sense. I thought I was suffering with 2 unrelated problems.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 12:28
