Terrified I might have Cervical Cancer

Hi all,

I came off the implant 2 years ago and have unsuccessfully trying for a baby.

My periods have been so irratic since, cycle anywhere between 13-69 days and spotting in between. I’ve seen my GP countless times about my concerns about the abnormal bleeding and not falling pregnant. Have had blood tests/ internal and external ultrasounds all came back ok.

I spoke to a different GP about still feeling concerned and because I’m now getting back/ hip pain and asked if I could have my smear early. He examined my cervix and said there was a red inflamed area, 2 weeks later I had a colonoscopy and biopsy taken and am now waiting on the results.

I did have HPV when I was in my teens.

I am so worried. I have an 11 year old son. Has anyone been in a similar position? I wish my GP would have examined my cervix over a year ago when I first went to them with my concerns.

Would the blood tests and ultrasounds not picked up anything??

Thank you for reading.

Have you looked into endometriosis? I don’t personally have this however my mother and best friend do (I have PCOS and had to go through IVF to have my son so I know how hard this kind of thing is)

I don’t think endo can be diagnosed by an ultrasound alone. My mother and friend had to have specialised procedures done (I forget what they’re called, I think it begins with L)

It can strike later in life too after a normal first pregnant. My mum has four children and was only diagnosed with endometriosis after her last had been born

Thank you for your reply. I’m not sure if the symptoms are the same as what I am experiencing. I have lost all thoughts of trying to conceive now as I just pray I will be ok to look after the child I already have xx

I’m wishing you the best in finding your results out. I understand how scary it is on account I’m having health issues too currently.

The reason I suggested endo is because my mum and friend also had random back pains/pelvic pains along with bouts of bleeding between periods. My friend sadly also suffered some degree of infertility due to hers and it took her a long time to conceive.

Have you been given a guideline as to how long it will take to get your results back? I’ve never had a smear before as I’m under 25 so I’m unsure of the ‘rules’ and time frames, surrounding them but I’m hoping for the best outcome for you and your son xx

Also to add - I had an inflamed area on my cervix in my pregnancy with DS1. I was told it was an ectropion and no further action was required. Ectropians can also spot and bleed quite regularly! They also appear pretty nasty to look at (very inflamed and red) however are harmless
