Lump on shin

Pinkypie123 · 26/11/2020 22:41

My leg has been feeling uncomfortable, almost an itchy pain that comes on occasionally. I have noticed that on my shin bone there is a small, smooth oval shaped lump under the skin - can't see anything on skin. Showed it to doc, she was only newly qualified but said never seen anything like it before. I can roll it under finger side to side, it is on the harder side definitely not soft. Just a bit worried!

What colour is it? Does it sound like any of these?

Years ago I had a tiny lump on my nipple that had a rim, had it cut out and turned out to have a very long ingrown hair. They said they would send it for testing, never found anything.

On my shin I have a small red brown lump that started clear. I always assumed it was the same - an ingrown hair. Recently decided I should ask the doc to remove it.

Can't see anything, skin is normal, can only feel it if rub fingers along shin bone. It rolls under fingers and is smooth. I also have a red brown lump on my other leg, think it is a dermatofibroma. The other lump is very different, invisible on skin, definitely underneath

I have 2 - one on each leg. One GP said to ignore it, the other said it could be a lipoma -fat lump and are harmless so just ignore it. Then I started getting weird cramps so went to see a third doctor who said that it is a valve failure in vein causing soft lump and asked me to take vitamin d. The cramps stopped after taking vitamin d so may be the third doctor was right.
Interestingly, a few years later I had a surgery and the surgeon commented that I had a bad pelvic congestion and I was lucky it didn't cause any circulation issues in my legs. So till day I don't know the exact cause but I have it for a long time and it's not dangerous.
I can't see it, it's skin colored but it is visible if I stand on my toes.

Thanks @Literallyfedup, did it feel a bit hard and oval ish shape. I can't squash it at all. - almost feels like a pip from a lemon. Been there about a month, not changed but leg does have weird feelings occasionally. I had actually thought could it be a block in vein as rolls side to side but not up and down.

I had lumps on my shins many years ago - caused by erythema nodosum

CountreeGurl · 28/11/2020 23:23

Have these on both shins for about 15 years, 2 or 3 on each side, not dead yet so I don't think they are harmful!

Thanks @CountreeGurl, reassuring to know! Do they ever feel a bit itchy sore? Mine is getting on my nerves, its how I found it as was rubbing my leg to ease the itch, can't see anything on skin at all.

@Pinkypie123 Did you ever find out what this lump was? I have exactly the same thing!
