Body tired mind awake

I have respiratory disease and as it's progressed I hit a wall of tiredness around 8 or 9pm especially if I have exercised. I can only really sit around and read. Watching things is too much. Even reading seems to spark my brain and I then keep going until 12 or 1am until I am worn out. I then feel groggy and less effective at work the next day. How can I switch my brain off to get the sleep my body actually needs?

I'm early 40s and need to get a handle on it or will struggle more as I get older.

^I should say that I try reading in bed, from 8 or 9, some nights. Maybe I should try and stay up and do cleaning?

Lie in bed and listen to audio books? I sometimes use them for getting to sleep if I’m stressed - something light hearted and episodic is good so you don’t get too caught up in a plot 🙂

There are also some audio books/podcasts designed to help you sleep - sure you could get some good recommendations on here.

That's a great idea, thanks. I'll have a look at those.
