Dry socket after tooth removal

Hi! Just wondered big anyone had experienced dry socket? I had a tooth out last Wednesday, been in agony since. Managed to go back to dentist yesterday who said was dry socket then packed it with some kind of brown paste type thing! Pain relieved slightly but still regularly taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. Tonight I rinsed with salt water and some of the stuff came out 😬 is this normal?? Just worried the immense pain is going to come back again!!! Can I use oil of cloves on it? Any advice welcome!!

Yes- literally weeks ago! Don't rinse your mouth anymore as the brown packing needs to stay in there for as long as possible. You need to hold the salt water or antibacterial mouthwash on the area, don't swish it. The relief is provided by the clove oil, once that wears off, the pain will return. I bought some clove oil from the chemist For literally a few pounds and it was like actual magic. It's the only thing that eased the pain completely. I used a dropper to squirt it on to the tooth. It's like a liquid anaesthetic 😍 but it tastes absolutely foul, and I mean foul!! But once the taste goes, you should be completely pain free! I completely sympathise with, it's one of the worst pains I've ever had !

I am very surprised your dentist did not tell you not to rinse your mouth with salt water, just hold it in your mouth.
When I fairly recently had a tooth out I ate soft food for at least a week, tried not to sneeze...difficult and made sure I did not suck on anything.

Same here. Its horrible isnt it. Tooth removed last Monday at hospital. Back in dentist Wednesday with dry socket so it was packed out. Woke up Saturday and hole was completely empty and not a single stitch left. My head, face, ears, jaw, neck and shoulders are all killing me. Im also on antibiotics for it but they aren't doing anything. Nor is co codamol 15/500

Thanks for the replies, sorry I didn't mean rinsed I just held it over the area, couldn't think of the word - this damn lack of sleep!!
@MamaD20 first job tomorrow is to get some clove oil!
Oh @SpideyMom that sounds awful, I think I might switch to co codamol tomorrow if it's still bad. I'm pretty sure this is worse than childbirth!!

Yes this was me a few weeks ago - it did take a couple of weeks for the pain to finally go. I found Paramol from the pharmacy (in the black packet) slightly better for the pain but it is really horrible and I'm sorry you are suffering- wishing you a speedy recovery Thanks

I had one years ago.It started a few days after an extraction. The pain was horrendous, back to the dentist for packing, but even then it lasted for about 2 weeks. You have my sympathy, worst pain I've evet felt.

Having read up on dry socket prior to my extraction I was terrified about it. Explains why I barely ate for a week. I hope you are pain free soon.
