Left arm pain

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what’s up with my arm?!
For about 3 weeks I’ve had a pain in my arm from my shoulder to my elbow.... it’s a constant ache not a shooting pain. It’s worse at the end of the day and doesn’t hurt in the morning. In some positions it’s really bad, if it’s in certain positions where it’s resting on something it’s ok. Also my hand and fingers get really bad pins and needles too when I have the pain.
I can’t sleep on it and I can’t sleep on the other side unless it’s kinda of elevated on a pillow?! It’s my left arm.
I will go to the doctors but I’ve just started a new job so I don’t to ask for any time off yet.
Any insight would be great!!
Thank you

Some movement, or way you are holding yourself in your new job that’s causing a problem maybe?
A change in working area/desk has caused me to need physio as my shoulder was agony. The set up of screen, mouse & chair height was wrong causing me to strain to use the computer. It’s weird how the smallest thing can cause you issues.

You can get shoulder supports, might be worth trying one to see if it helps with the pain.

yeOldeTrout · 25/11/2020 20:16

What is your new job?

What do you do all day with that arm?

Angrymum22 · 25/11/2020 20:19

Are you spending a large amount of time holding an iPad or reading a book.
I get pins and needles in my hand when reading from book or iPad in bed. Something I’m doing rather a lot of during lockdown.

I’ve just looked straight up into the air and the pain was really bad so I’m thinking maybe it’s my neck?! My job is at a desk but I’ve been writing my dissertation for the last month or so, so I’ve had my head down for really long periods of time?! Maybe it’s a pinched nerve or something? Will it go away?! It’s really bad!

It'll be a pinched nerve. Had it myself a few months ago. Google some exercises and do them religiously - one is basically stood up and turn your neck slowly from side to side, pausing at the front. That can help un-trap it

Doggotired · 25/11/2020 20:27

Ah ok! Thank you! I will have a look now

You could have an impingement in your shoulder joint. How’s your posture? If you tend to hunch over a desk or slouch a bit it can affect the stability of your shoulder muscles and give you pain. If so try and concentrate on relaxing your shoulders and drawing your shoulder blades together to make sure you’re not slouching Smile

Doggotired · 25/11/2020 20:52

Constantly slouching.... worst posture ever. It’s more of a slump than a slouch! I will give it a go!

Sounds like your neck - I had something a bit similar though not so constant with the ache. Went to the GP with all sorts of thoughts in mind, they got me to look up at the ceiling and said yes, it's your neck. I was referred to physiotherapy who went through some exercises with me that helped. Should do them again ...

So if you can't sort it substantially yourself do phone your GP to discuss it, you may be able to get a phone appointment and a physio referral (don't know what wait times on the latter would be - but if you don't need help any more when the appointment comes you can let them know and cancel it)

TAmumto3 · 25/11/2020 21:40

Following... I have the exact same symptoms. My gp not seeing patients so trying to ignore but now have pain in left hip and knee too.

Doggotired · 25/11/2020 22:09

Oh god I don’t want it spread all over my left side!!! I’m gonna try some exercises this week and if it’s no help I will call the gp.

@Doggotired how did you get on?
I'm having similar in right arm but now it's starting in left arm. Wondering if it's my posture
