dh got me a ring for xmas it fits fine and is actually a little loose, but two days ago i was putting a toy box together and i have made my finger sore with the bloody screwdriver and it came up in a big blister noe it's just sore and red but drying up but my finger must have swollen cos i can not get my ring off

the part of the finger that the ring is on hasn;t swollen and the ring can still be moved but i can;t get it past the sore part any ideas

Go straight for the cooking oil.

littleboo · 19/10/2007 10:51

Water and soap or washing up liquid

Niecie · 19/10/2007 10:52

Do you have to take it off? If it isn't sore and still comfortable I would leave it on until your finger has calmed down a bit. You will only make your finger swell up more if you try and get it off with butter or whatever.

If it is swollen you could try running it under a cold tap to see if it will come down a bit.

Is it practical to leave the ring on until the sore part heals? if it's drying already shouldn't be to long. Or is it too big to do things like sleeping and showering in?
Sorry, not much help

Put your hand in a basin of cold water for a while. Try washing up liquid to ease it off.

There is a clever way of removing rings with a length of cotton thread but I can't remember the technique.

If your finger is blue or it feels numb you might have to have the ring cut off in A & E.

have tried the cold water thing and washing uop liquid but no joy

oh no it's not that bad

not realy supposed to wear it fo work but i'm sure if i explain itto my boss (if she notices she wonl mind

won;t panic unless ring gets completely wedged just going to try and forget it

Can you put a plaster over it for work?

CountessDracula · 19/10/2007 11:56

A good thing to try (if not too painful on blister) is to push your ring right back down your finger as far as it will go then get someone to wrap cotton tightly round and round til it has gone past the swollen bit

Sort of like control pants

mustsleep · 19/10/2007 11:59

love control pants for finger will try that if it'sstill not off after the weekend

will put a plaster on adragonisforlifenotjusthalloween the she'll never know!!

ladle sorry, keyboard is knackered

I have never failed to get a ring off with liquid soap (no water) but the trick is getting someone else to get it off not you. I don't know if it's the angle or what but it works every time (last time was a couple of weeks ago at bingo in the ladies loos, got one ring off and even I thought I had been defeated with the second but a little perserverance, loads and loads of lquid soap and a bit of wiggling and it came off. It's worth a try, good luck

McDreamy · 19/10/2007 13:10

Ah...didn't read the bit about the blister...that may change things as that sounds really sore

EmilyDavidson · 19/10/2007 13:17

I had to get a ring cut off at the jewellers once ,they have a special little tool that does it and it doesnt hurt ,it was a free service even though the ring wasn't from them.
They mended it back to my real size and you could hardly see the join , I had to pay for that but it wasnt much
