Anyone here know about blood tests?

I've had very unusual bleeding after a failed cannulation last week in A and E.

There's bruising at the site (top of elbow, not in bend of elbow) which looks normal.

But four days later red and purple bruising suddenly appeared, tracking up my arm from elbow to armpit in a straight line.

Bruising is now black/blue colour.

Oncologist not concerned as it doesn't look infected but didn't tell me (done by text!) what it actually is.

I'm concerned because after eight years of chemo I only have one working vein left, and this one is it...is the delayed bleeding a sign it's been damaged?

Top left of the photo is the bruise from cannulation site. Then you see the bruising spreads upwards; it goes up into my armpit, in a straight like.

Could it be from a BP cuff?

Weenurse · 25/11/2020 06:34

Agree, looks like a BP cuff.
I did have similar after blood tests, just bruising tracking up my arm.
Do you have low platelets?

yarncakes · 25/11/2020 20:41

I had this when I had to get my blood pressure checked every 2 hours after an op. They done the BP check on the same arm I had a cannula in as well. It was very sore! I hope it heals ASAP for you.

Thanks, I hadn't considered this but yes I was on observations every 15 mins so I had the cuff there multiple times. That would make sense; a dodgy cannulation plus multiple blood pressures taken there. Thank you
