side effects of measles jab

My son had his measles jab yesterday (the single dose). I was told to look out for side effects of a rash/fever but thats all. He was absolutely fine until this afternoon when he developed a runny tummy, a bit of a cold and has been crying alot.

Does anyone else have experience of similar side effects post-jab. I'm trying not to worry and just wondered whether there were similar experiences. thanks

my ds is having his measels jab on monday so I have some literature to hand which says that the following are possible side effects

a raised temperature
a rash
swelling or bruising at the site
lethergy or being 'run down'

It does also stress that each child can react differently. I know that a lot of my friend's children have colds just now, mine included, so it could just be a coincidence.

When I took my ds to the doctors a while back over a rash, he told me, in a nice way, to trust my own instincts a bit more.

If he hadn't had the jab you probably wouldn't be worried about a bout of cold and upset tummy and if they are side effects, you also dont need to worry. (listen to me, offering advise as if I'm Florence Nightingale). I would say, go with your gut feeling and if you're in any way worried, then take him to get him checked. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Hi buttercup,
my ds had the single measles jab and within a week he was terribly run down and had a similar runny tummy. It lasted about 5 days (he may have even caught it elsewhere and it was a co-incidence) but I put it down to his body coping with the live vaccine. Gave him flat lemonade for the runny tummy and he was fine. If he is still poorly after a few days, take him to the doctors to be sure.
