My smear test says boaderline changes were found. But I don’t have HPV ?
What could cause this ?
I have pcos, could this have anything to do with it ?

You could have had HPV and cleared it.

Comps83 · 24/11/2020 18:02

I thought they didn't check the cells anymore if you don't have hpv?

yarncakes · 24/11/2020 20:00

If you don't have HPV then they wouldn't of checked your cells so you wouldn't know if they're abnormal? Unless maybe it's different where I am in Wales. This is worrying. What's the point checking for hpv when you can still get cell changes without it? Shocking.

Which country are you in @Lifesforloving1 ?

Lifesforloving1 · 24/11/2020 22:06

@Comps83

The risk at population level is remote, so that's why. Screening programmes are about risk at a population level, there's no intention with any screening programme to catch every individual case.

Op, if there's nothing they want to do next, or they've told you a plan, then that's what matters. Sometimes, if not most times, we never know the reason why. Modern medicine has far fewer answers than we often expect from it!

If it's any help I had an abnormal smear and had the colcoscopy and it came back fine. I then had another smear and it was normal.
