Hi

I had my appendix out on Wednesday last week. In the same op I had a 9cm ovarian cyst drained and removed.

Previous thread here....

I was discharged the next day, with codeine and paracetamol. My pain has been pretty ok, and well controlled up until this afternoon/evening. The last 2 or three hours the pain on my right side has been unbearable every time I move. Like a horrible sharp stabbing pain, it takes my breath away. Before I left the hospital, the surgeon told me that post appendectomy there is a risk of infection in the area, called an infected collection. I don't whether to call 111, or if this is just the kind of pain to expect.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I can't comment on the cyst but I had my appendix out last year and didn't have any of the type of pain that you're describing afterwards. It was sore and bruises, but no stabbing pains or anything like that and it just for better every day. I was back at work a week later and absolutely fine.

Do you have the number of the ward you were on? Can you call for advice?
