Herpes II treatment

Regular but NC.
I’ve had genital heroes for a few years and was prescribed Acyclovir to take when I can feel one cropping up (usually feel a bit flu-ey the day before one starts developing) so I take 3 a day for 5 days and that’s meant to help prolong the period until the next attack.
I know my triggers and avoid them but this past 2 months I’ve had them one after the other.
The actual blister doesn’t bother me as much as the other symptoms (generally feeling run down, the nervy feeling in legs)

Does anyone know of any different medication I could either be prescribed or vitamins I could buy to help?
I remember someone mentioned taking Acyclovir daily but I can’t seem to find it.
Asking now as when I asked to be put on the 3 daily for 5 days dose the GP had never even heard of it and had to look it up and was very reluctant about it so want to be armed with the right info before approaching again.

Can't help about herpes 2 specifically, but DD takes daily Acyclovir for recurrent very nasty coldsores (aka herpes 1) and it very much keeps them at bay.

You do have to have your kidneys kept an eye on if taking it daily though (DD has a blood test about every 6 months).

Valocyclovir: I take it daily as a suppressant, I have for 10 years. Before I got an outbreak a month, now never unless I forget to take or try a break from the block Valtrex (brand name). I get no side effects and it's changed my life.

Thank you both, this is really useful.
It’s really getting me down & I just need something to give me a break in between attacks at least

Can I ask what strength your GPs(or in general of any in similar situations you know of) prescribed?
When I take the 3 daily dose it’s the 400mg version

I have types 1&2. I only recently found this out. The valocyclovir has been a life saver, but I had to persuade the doctor to prescribe it and as I reach 60 I know I'm going to have to persuade again because they are going to want me to stop.

500mg per day btw.

Have you tried taking olive leaf extract as a supplement? It's worth a go as can be quite effective.

Sorry to hear that, it’s a really rubbish condition.
I’m in my 30s so would probably need to battle the same to be on long term medication.

I haven’t tried olive leaf but will do, I have taken L-lysine but that work.
