Does anyone meet all the guidelines?

Tigger03 · 15/11/2020 15:25

I was thinking earlier about the key guidelines published by the government for health:
5 a day fruit and veg
2 litres of water
10,000 steps a day
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week
Max 14 units of alcohol
8 hours of sleep a night

Does anyone manage to do all these? How do you feel? Is it enough?

I do some of these, but definitely not all of them consistently and interested if anyone consistently meets them.

Probably five a day
150 minutes easily but not necessarily 10,000 steps (not a govt/NHS one is it?? )
I sleep well from 11-7 so yes
Not 2 litres (again is that official?)
Under 14 units usually yes (I worked that out the other day)
Not bad
I'm not in the healthy weight range though.

Rollerbird · 15/11/2020 17:35

5 a day fruit and veg - yes
2 litres of water - not usually
10,000 steps a day - probably varies between 8000 and 15,000
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week - very very easily probably about 600 minutes
Max 14 units of alcohol - zero units
8 hours of sleep a night - yes

I do feel like I'm fit and healthy. Sleep is a really big one.

whatsbinhappnin · 15/11/2020 17:37

5 a day- probably average 4 most days, occasionally 6, sometimes 3
150 minutes- yes
10000 steps- yes
8 hours sleep- yes, 11-7
Under 14 units- yes, max 2 a week probably
2 litres water- sometimes? don't keep track! Just see how thirsty I feel/wee colour
Lowest end of healthy weight range if relevant

I still feel crap a lot of the time though Grin

itsgettingweird · 15/11/2020 17:45

5 a day most days.

8-10,000 steps. Was easier before lockdown and often did more then.

8 hours sleep. I am atm because I'm not up at 5 4 times a week to take ds swim training! Otherwise I get 6.5-9 hours a night.

2 litre of water/squash most days. Sometimes more and sometimes less.

No to intense exercise!

itsgettingweird · 15/11/2020 17:45

Oh and I don't drink so don't have the units!

AbsolutWitch · 15/11/2020 17:46

5 a day fruit and veg - yes usually
2 litres of water - yes easily
10,000 steps a day - no
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week - no
Max 14 units of alcohol - nearly always
8 hours of sleep a night - rarely as toddler wakes before 5am. I do go to bed early though.

I'm fat and have lots to work on Blush

magbob · 15/11/2020 17:51

Absolutely, have done for almost 3 years. I'm boring, but I feel it is part of a formula to first lose then maintain weight. I went from 11 stone 3 to 7 stone 8 in 5 months and have stayed that way. However, I panic if I'm struggling to fit in the steps (only failed 4 times in all that time) so I realise that, the fruit and veg, and the water is obsessive. I used to struggle to sleep but I'm fortunate that the migraine tablets I take have a side effect that aids sleep.

Callcat · 15/11/2020 17:51

Yeah I think I do! I feel OK. I need more sleep than the average person, being tired makes me entirely non functional. I go to bed at between 9 and 10, get up between 5 and 6 and do 30 min HIIT and between 20-60 mins yoga. I eat pretty well, but do put a lot of mayo on foods. I more or less gave up drinking in May after realising I was drinking faaaar too much too often. Only meant to have a short break from it but I felt so good that I didn't go back, save for the odd glass maybe once a month. I used to be so rock and roll too 😂

IWouldLikeToKnow · 15/11/2020 17:56

Pretty sure the exercise guidelines are 150 of moderate exercise or 75 mins of vigorous exercise - unless the UK guidelines are different from the WHO.

Pieceofpurplesky · 15/11/2020 17:57

5 a day yes and then some
Water yes
Steps usually
Sleep no but I function on much less and always have
Alcohol probably evens out over a month with some weeks having a drink and some weeks not
150 minutes no. I don't have time as I leave home at 7, get back at 5. Care for parents so cook and clean very day. Single mum and I tutor on the side. Usually sit down to plan lessons at 9.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/11/2020 17:59

I definitely don't get enough sleep. Often don't get home from work until 9pm and I'm
awake before 6am - but even if you said 6am I'd need to be asleep by 10 and there's no way I can do that if I'm not home until 9pm.

I do my best with the other things, but often don't achieve them all.

I feel like absolute crap ALL the time

Floralnomad · 15/11/2020 18:01

5 a day fruit and veg : yes
2 litres of water :yes
10,000 steps a day :yes
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week :yes
Max 14 units of alcohol : I’m tee-total
8 hours of sleep a night : no , I have only ever needed 4-5 hours sleep

150 minutes vigorous exercise per week
Max 14 units of alcohol
8 hours of sleep a night
10,000 steps a day
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week
Max 14 units of alcohol
8 hours of sleep a night

Floralnomad · 15/11/2020 18:02

Something weird happened there .

Feelingthelobe · 15/11/2020 18:06

No to all.

Probably 10 times that for alcohol

Will quite often do 30 or 40k steps but can also do days with less than 3k

Feel fine. Bottom half of “normal” weight

Looneytune253 · 15/11/2020 18:06

Yes apart from the alcohol. But I'm still very overweight but I do try very hard lol.

anxiiousone · 15/11/2020 18:14

5 a day fruit and veg
Some days I hit this, others no

2 litres of water
LOADS of water - but it is tap!

10,000 steps a day
5,000 - 6,000 dog walk on bum rest of time

150 minutes vigorous exercise per week
No. Health issues mean walking is my cardio

Max 14 units of alcohol
Zero

8 hours of sleep a night
4 to 6. Used to sleep like a log the menopause happened

Weight
Low end of healthy - don't eat much which is lucky because I can't burn it off with extreme cardio

Tigger03 · 15/11/2020 18:26

To add in myself:

5 a day - sometimes (normally about 4)
Water: nope
Steps: average about 5,000 a day
Sleep: yes
Exercise: atm minimal
Alcohol: probably about 18 units a week.

I feel ok, but definitely feel better when I get my arse in gear with the exercise!

I have upped my running mileage this month and I feel rubbish though.

CherryPavlova · 17/11/2020 08:21

5 a day fruit and veg -Yes, easily.
2 litres of water - not necessarily as water but fluids, yes.
10,000 steps a day - not counted but imagine at least that as walk about six miles with dog plus incidental walking.
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week - depends on sea temperature but it’s only just 2.5 hours so I think so. Tik Tok dancing does it generally.
Max 14 units of alcohol - dry at moment for lockdown
8 hours of sleep a night - I like sleep.

Infinitethings · 17/11/2020 08:27

5 fruit and veg - no, probably 3
2 litres water - no, probably not even 1
10,000 steps a day - nowhere near, especially over the last 8 months
150 mins exercise - probably 1 hour
Alcohol - barely any so that’s good
8 hours sleep - never ever

I’m going to make a bit more effort on the water and fruit and veg as that is relatively easy to do.

MiddlesexGirl · 17/11/2020 08:34

Well some of them are nonsense anyway!

Fwiw

5 fruit and veg - prob. about 3 - 5.
2 litres water - nope. Some days none but I drink other things.
10,000 steps a day - working days no. Exercise days yes. Much harder under lockdown.
150 mins exercise - easily. Under normal circumstances average around 7-8 hours.
Alcohol - almost none.
8 hours sleep - rarely. Average around 6-6.5 hours and get a headache if I sleep much longer.

NameChange84 · 17/11/2020 08:38

5 a day fruit and veg - more like 3 most days but sometimes up to 7
2 litres of water - yes
10,000 steps a day - no
150 minutes vigorous exercise per week - no
Max 14 units of alcohol - zero units, I don’t drink
8 hours of sleep a night - yes

I feel HORRENDOUS. I feel about 89 years old. But I’ve got an autoimmune condition so it’s probably that.

Cailleach · 17/11/2020 08:39

Yes to all of it but not the sleep. I eat well and have a very physical job/ an allotment so the exercise bit comes built in.

lazylinguist · 17/11/2020 08:45

Fruit and veg - often but not always
Water - no
10,000 steps - probably. I think I do about 6000 on my daily dog walks, but I don't carry my phone around all the time so I'm not sure how much my general walking around adds.
150 mins exercise- it depends what counts. I do my dog walks fast and partly very uphill, to the point it raises my heart rate and makes me a bit sweaty. So if that counts, then definitely. I also do yoga.
Alcohol - none.
Sleep - between 7 and 8 hours.

PolarBearStrength · 17/11/2020 09:04

Probably not 10,000 steps every day but I usually do more exercise than is recommended so it probably evens out. Although not currently as I have a newborn but give it a few weeks and we’ll be back to normal-ish.

Sleep-wise I’m used to about 9 hours. Currently getting about 6-7 broken hours which I don’t think is terrible!

I don’t drink very often, drink plenty of water, and eat lots of fruit and veg.
