Red cervix and bleeding days before periods

I'm 37 so don't think I'm premenopausal yet, but for the last three periods I've had some small bleeding/spotting 3-4 days before my period. It disappears and then my period appears. Slightly heavier than normal but otherwise all on schedule.

Going to the doctor and they found I've got an ectropion - cervix bright red. I know I didn't have this before and I'm not on any birth control and definitely not pregnant (which I understand are usual causes).

I'm getting low back pain and abdominal pain, frequent urination particularly at night. Awful constipation.

Doctor says it's just one of those things, but the bleeding seems odd to me since I've never had it before. They did a transvaginal ultrasound and said it was all normal.

Only difference is I've been taking mysimba/contrave slimming pill for past 3 months or so but googling doesn't suggest it's related.

Any ideas what could be causing this ?

The ectropion could be causing the spotting. They are hormone driven. If your ultrasound scan was normal, that's reassuring.
With regards to the urinary symptoms, could it be related to the slimming pills? If not, try cutting down on caffeine, especially around bedtime. Keep a bladder diary.

Thanks for your reply @Mitosisgirl

I would have thought my hormones would be fairly settled now as I had my last baby almost 3 years ago. Maybe it could be the slimming pills then?

Thanks for the caffeine tip. Perhaps I'm drinking too much tea. I will cut back and see if it makes a difference Smile

A surge in hormones during the pregnancy led to the formation of the ectropion, most likely. This can cause spotting now and then.

Hey ,

I've got this too apparently , was found when I had one tinsy spot of blood between periods . So being pro active , I went straight to the docs . This was about 5 years ago . She checked and said I've got cervical erosion/ ectropian .
And if my mind serves me correctly she did a swab for infections .
I had a smear the year after . Was normal . She said erosion still there and then had a smear few weeks ago , so three years later , and nurse said it was still there and cervix was bright red .
I've never had any symptoms from it though apart from that one tiny spot of blood , which may not have come from it as was so small !
Anyway. I still worry , as to why it's still there . But smear cane back normal . And nurse didn't say anything bad about it . So what more can I do . But , yup I still worry .
