Football (astroturf) - which trainers?

This is no doubt a stupid question, but I'm trying to go train with a local women's football club. It's on astroturf. Do I just wear my running shoes? Do I use one of my 'walking around' pairs of trainers? How do I pick?

(Yes, I should go buy football trainers, I guess, but I want to work out which club, which training surface, and whether football is for me, first. I already probably have to buy shin guards to go try this ...)

You want something that'll give you some grip. Whichever gives you most grip, otherwise you'll be slipping over and giving yourself friction burns. Cover all exposed parts. Even consider wearing gloves!

DH plays in goal on astroturf - he's had some pretty nasty burns!

You can wear whatever trainers you like but if you need your runners for actually running in you might want to avoid those. The astro can shred the soles pretty quickly, which is why for more than occasional use it is best to get some astro boots - the ones with pimples on the bottom. They are not hugely expensive - you should be able to find some for 20-25 pounds.

Well, my runners are getting pretty thoroughly trashed these days anyway. Maybe I'll pull out some older runners, I have a few pairs around. Good point re: grip, maybe I'll bring a couple of pairs so I have options ... I'll have gloves for biking, so will wear those, and will consider getting shin guards, too.
