My daughter has had an upset bottom for 5 days, what should I do?

My dd, aged two and half has been doing runny, yellow poos....you know the type of thing since Sunday, but she only seems to do one a day. On Monday she did do 3 in one hour, but thats its. She goes all day fine then between 4-5pm there it is. She is totally fine in herself and is behaving normally and sleeping the same amount. The rest of us are fine. Ive not been starving her or anything, just feeding her what we normally would. Should I be worried or just let it take its course. I was wondering if this is just the nature of the bug that is going around.

Yes my little boy was like that with apple juice when he was younger. It could be that I guess, but Ihave been making sure her juice is diluted with that in mind. Any ideas generally how this might go on for.

Some children are prone to diarrhoea for no apparent cause, they call it toddler diarrhoea. When my daughter had it the GP's recommendation was

Cut down on fluid if she drinks a lot, particularly if she drinks apple juice or drinks with artificial sweeteners in them

Introduce more foods with fat, such as full fat yoghurt, cheese and so on

If she eats a lot of high-fibre foods, reduce them for a while.

If it lasts more than another couple of days, see your GP.

DS has had this a couple of times. Our GP recommended that he should stop drinking cows milk and drink either soya or goats milk. Apparently there is some protein in cows milk which irritates the weak gut and so it can't recover. Soya and goats milk don't have the protein so by drinking this instead the gut has time to sort itself out.

We gave him goats milk both times (didn't appear to notice the difference!) and then gave him cows milk after about 4/6 weeks. He also had a really sore bottom with it which cleared up almost instantly once we changed the milk.
