Do I have an under active thyroid...

Years ago I convinced myself I had an under active thyroid but the doctors wouldn’t blood test me or take me seriously. I walked away feeling a bit embarrassed.

Anyway recently I decided to do my own blood tests (using Thriva) as it was easy to do.

My FT4 has come back as low and they recommend I see my doctor.

Recently my long term symptoms have changed.

  • always tired
  • often in a brain fog
  • suffer from anxiety depression
  • very bad constipation
  • always getting numb hands legs/feet like a severe pins & needles
  • struggle to lose weight even though I’m very active and really do eat very well.

I am 30. Do at least 15,000 steps a day.

Results.

TSH 1.81

FT4 10.8

Any advice - I really can’t be bothered to go through the rigmarole of speaking to a doctor who will dismiss me as depressed/prescribe me laxatives etc.

You might get some advice if you join and post on the online forum here.

Did you have anything else tested?
B12 deficiency can cause pins & needles
Vitamin D deficiency can also cause brain fog. Is there a more sympathetic dr at your surgery? Would changing practices help? I hope you get some answers soon.

Yes probably. Your TSH is pretty good so they likely won't treat you, but mine needs to be under 1 to feel well as I'm taking T3 and T4.

Sounds EXACTLY like me too but I did a Thriva and it all came back fine. So it's just my own stupid fucking fault that I can't lose weight :( Definitely see a GP and see if they can kick your thyroid into gear! If you've got that result then surely they will be more likely to listen to you?
