how is he in himself? Is he ill at all?

Did he fall down yesterday hurting his nose,
or do you think he was picking his nose in the night, is there blood on his finger?

MamaG · 16/10/2007 08:54

My DD used to get a lot of nosebleeds

IME, it looks like there is a lot of blood when in actual fact there isn't always.

if you're worried, give NHS Direct a ring

TrickORTripletEm · 16/10/2007 08:55

Sometimes little ones get nose bleeds from being to hot at night,or from just having a good old scratch!!!
If you are worried take him to see the G.P it won't do any harm just to get him checked out.

belgo · 16/10/2007 08:55

was the nosebleed already stopped when he wok up?

notnowbernard · 16/10/2007 08:55

This happened to dd2 when she was about 6m old. Freaked me out when she woke in the middle of the night and I looked in her cot! Blood everywhere!

I called the 24h GP service and he thought probably it was a burst blood vessel. Apparently it's common, esp if they have a cold. Give your GP a call if you're concerned.

Hope ds is ok

lemonaid · 16/10/2007 08:57

Not unusual at all some children are just prone to nosebleeds (DH was, looks as though DS is the same way while I've never had one in my life). I wouldn't worry.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 16/10/2007 08:57

Has he had a cold?

alibobins · 16/10/2007 09:16

yesterday he had a temp and a snotty nose.
Its still bleeding slightly not pooring.

Does he seem well in himself? Temp, pallor, appetite?

Is he just bleeding from his nose?

belgo · 16/10/2007 09:24

it's probably just due to a weak blood vessels that's bleeding due to his cold. If it doesn't stop, then take him to the doctors, they'll pack it properly.

isgrassgreener · 16/10/2007 09:25

This used to happen to DS2 all of the time, one night I actually passed out in the bathroom when I got up to help DH sort him out, he was so covered in blood! It was a very funny scene, me passed out naked on the floor, DS who has white blond hair covered in blood, poor DH not knowing who to help first.
Anyway, that did prompt me to take him to the doctors and we were sent to hospital and they cauterised it. He had been having nosebleeds for about 2 years on and off and he still has the odd one, especially if he gets his nose knocked, but I dont worry about it.

alibobins · 16/10/2007 09:41

He is slightly poorly and clingly
Have phoned gp and got to take him up at 10.10.

Can't believe its still blleding he woke up at 6.45.

well doctor said its an infection and gave him some antibiotic drops. Said if it hasn't stopped by tea-time then i've got to take him to a&e.

OP posts:
belgo · 16/10/2007 11:09

hope it stops and the drops work.

alibobins · 16/10/2007 18:10

Well fingers crossed it stopped about an hour ago and now all we have is thick green/yellow snot (tmi sorry )

OP posts:
belgo · 16/10/2007 18:23

that's a long nosebleed. If it starts again (I'm sure you'll check on him in the night), then I think you may need A&E.

alibobins · 16/10/2007 19:02

It hasn't been pooring all that while just running constantly with blood iyswim.

Fingers crossed it won't start again in the night he's sleeping with me just incase.
