Hi all, I'm just wondering if this is normal or I need to bother the GP. I had a Mirena coil fitted last week, had a few minor cramps that evening as expected. Yesterday I got my period and have had severe pain in my lower right abdomen since. My flow is much lighter than normal ( due to the coil I'm presuming) but this pain is unreal. I normally get bad cramps but this is just a severe constant sharp pain on the right side. Does anyone have any advice?

@wewillmeetagain did your GP give you an information leaflet or any guidance? I had a copper coil and really suffered with period cramps. Ultimately my body tried to expel it after 9 months and then the same thing happened with the 2nd coil! I was always told that coils wouldn't cause pain 😏 so if it was me I would book a phone appointment to discuss what symptoms you could expect and how long it will take for your body to adjust.

I worse period pains with the mirena than i'd ever had in my life, it was distinct period pain though, not in one specific area as you describe. Might be worth a call to your GP, they might want to check it's in the right place.
