Hair loss and treatment

I went to dermatologist yesterday as I’ve noticed significant thinning of my hair over lockdown. He suggested Regaine and ran blood tests to check my iron and vitamin D levels. I already had blood tests to check for peri menopausal as I’m 43 and those tests all came back clear. I will see him again in a few weeks once the test results are back and then I might be put on medication.

While I wait for my next appointment and continue to uses the Regaine can anyone recommend shampoos? I’ve been using Plantur 39 for a couple of months (but I’ve read that it doesn’t work) but I saw online that volumising shampoos work in terms of creating a fuller look.

Any advice would be great as I am finding it all extremely stressful. My hair has always been incredibly important to me and I’m fussy about it. So while it might sound trivial to some people, and I accept that far worse things could be happening to me, it is still something that is causing me upset.

It is not trivial at all.
Listen to this podcast on Peter Attia
peterattiamd.com/alanbauman/ where Alan Bauman, certified hair transplantation surgeon and hair restoration expert, discusses both male and female pattern hair loss, the science behind what drives it, and what that tells us about prevention and restoration.

It is quite a long episode , 2 hours, but you will find it very interesting.

So sorry to hear you're experiencing hair loss, it's really depressing, isn't it? With regard to volumising shampoos, I use L'Oreal FIbrology Thickening Shampoo and conditioner, they do seem to make a bit of a difference.

It's not at all trivial, it's a horrible thing to go through. Really affects your confidence and mood. How are you going on with the Regaine?

I tried Plantur 39, by the way and had to stop using it as it left my hair dreadfully tangled and in terrible condition.

Have you any idea what may have started the hair loss? Have you lost a lot of weight recently or been under a lot of stress?
