From NHS to private dentist

Due to the constrictions of cv19 we were told we could not see our dentist until perhaps next April. I decided to register us all with a private dentist to get us seen as the children had not been seen since January.
Expensive but I thought important and lucky we could stretch to it.

DH has now worried me by saying that he thinks we cannot go back to our NHS dentist when hopefully things settle?

Is he correct? I just wanted them checked. I haven’t said anything to the NHS dentist and plan to try and book them as suggested in April.

Anyone know if I’ve just opted us out of NHS dentistry!!!

No, you haven't. You can go back to an NHS dentist at any time. If you can find one.

I work in an NHS practice. If you left us to go private you wouldn't get back in. We aren't taking on new patients so you would loose your place with us.

I don’t know how the NHS dentist would know, unless you had to have treatment. I think you are wise, as I cannot see dentists offering NHS routine visits for a long while yet.

The new dentist may request records. Also if any work was done the NHS dentist would know as their charting would be different.
