Morning ladies. I just wondered, i live in Portsmouth and have just found a website called curves. It is like a womens only gym that devises healthy eating plans etc and only asks that you visit 3 times a week for half an hour at a time. Trouble is there is no mention of cost and woman only phone was very shady about this which tells me it is expensive!!! Anyone heard of it, go to it, know how much it is?
I have to do something to shift my lardiness- I'm nearly 24 stone!

There is a big chain of Curves, women only gyms in Aus and NZ ...
Don't know much about them though, maybe they have expanded to the UK?
I can't understand why she can't tell you the cost over the phone ...

Curves is huge in the States - just trying to break into the UK, I think. The money thing does sound a bit odd, though.

friends belongs to curves. think she pays about £45 a month. More expensive that I would pay but cheaper than Esporta

Thanks helsbels- yes that is pricey and more than I want to pay really. Hmmm, decisions!
Thanks everyone x

I've been to Curves. I think it costs about a couple of hundred quid a year from what i remember. Its all about resistance stuff so there's no weights or anything then you do a bit of aerobic stuff. I actually really enjoyed it and only stopped cause i got pregnant (good excuse). I hate exercise, hate the gym and need an iron lung when i do any kind of exercise but this was quite easy. You're probably just as well to go for a walk though - and it costs nothing!

Whoops sorry helbels I meant x

OK I am huge fan ..I joined last year at my fattest 15stone (only 5ft2)...it cost I think about £30 to join (special offer) then £30/month ...it is a quick 30min workout women only...fairly tedious TBH after a few months but easy to nip in and out (no fancy showers changing rooms etc don't expect it to look a lot)...didn't do the food bit.....
I usually hate gym and exercise but was totally addicted to this and ended up going 4-5/week and feeling terrible if I missed it...it changed my life - I lost 4 stone and over 50inches (down from dress size 20 to a 12-14)IN 8 MONTHS ....felt much better fitness and strength much improved and toned even lost my cellulite.....then I got pregnant but am in much better shape than last pregnancy and still smaller at 30 weeks than I was when I started CURVES...intend to get back to it as soon as I can after birth hopefully about 6 weeks It worked for me

Have just joined! Paid £88 up front which included £55 joining fee and £29 for 1st month.
It looks really friendly and do-able. Lets just hope it helps me shift this weight!
