Colonoscopy prep and nerves

8 replies

Somanyquestions22 · 22/10/2020 17:33

I have a colonoscopy in the morning and just started the prep. I have had a couple of colonoscopies before and was pretty chilled about it but now feeling a bit sorry for myself!

It's also a preventative colonoscopy due to previous issues and as I don't have any symptoms at the moment I feel like it isn't really necessary. So I am freaking out about going to hospital during covid times when I don't really need to, like I could have postponed it by a year or so?

I feel like Karma is going to make it go wrong or something. Just have a bad feeling generally. Am I being stupid?

I wish I was a 'bury head in the sand' person and hadn't booked it in :(

Hope it went ok for you today op.

Thank you, it went brilliantly and I walked out feeling great. Then a couple of hours later I ended up in terrible stomach pain, nausea, dizziness and fever. I have not felt this awful in a long time. The pain was near unbearable but passed after the two longest hours... I am now starving but whenever I eat the pain comes back. Has anyone else had this?
I'm so confused as it's never happened before and pretty worried :(

Glad it went well, but sorry about the effects you have now. I’ve not had one so can’t help I’m afraid.

@Somanyquestions22

Iv had a flexible sigmoidoscopy last year, didn't have any symptoms after.

I'm due to have a colonoscopy soon and just reading your post about after effects..is this common?😳 how are you now? I'm scared.! I'm currently having bowel issues they think Iv got ibs and I'm on antispasmodic medicine.. Iv been on them for 5 days but took too many today and didn't feel great. Hope you are doing better?

Somanyquestions22 · 25/10/2020 20:22

@Itonlytakesone honestly don't worry at all it is 100% not common. I've had 2 colonoscopies before, including one during which they removed polyps and even then I felt nothing after, I was fighting fit as soon as it was over. I called up to tell them about my after effects and they were really surprised, I think it was just bad luck. Maybe I had caught a virus before and it was a coincidence.
Ifyou want to be on the safe side, my advice would be not to eat too soon after and stick to plain foods. I wanted to put goodness back into me and had high fiber food which is hard to digest and I think that's what caused my pain. With the nausea and fever I think it was a reaction to the sedative, I tend to have nausea/sickness with any sort of anesthetic.
I feel perfectly normal now, and it almost feels like a bad dream. I'm starting to wonder if it was some sort of a bad trip when the sedative wore off! I am actually laughing about the drama now!

All the best with your colonoscopy, and hope it brings you answers. After mine when they removed polyps, my life went back to normal overnight, it was amazing! So it will be worth it for your health.

@Somanyquestions22

Ah sounds like it was just bad luck for you then yikes glad you're ok now. Iv never heard of polyps.

I actually think it could be endometriosis but then again it could be a bowel issue 🤷🏼‍♀️it's hard to narrow it down. Everything is so similar in symptoms. I'm starting week 3 tomorrow of my low fod map no dairy & gluten free diet it's quite restrictive but I'll do whatever it takes to get better Iv felt terrible since June it's been the worst year with everything else.. (Covid!) x
