What does the box say? If it doesn't ease off or you poo soon I'd give 111 a ring for advice.

MrMeSeeks · 21/10/2020 21:25

But they’re the same thing unless he got you the laxative version?
Ducolax also a stool softner Confused

Mrsjayy · 21/10/2020 21:25

Oh god i feel your pain its bloody horrific, hopefully you go to the toilet soon i find lying on my left side knees up eases the cramps but 8 can't reassure you it will stop soon.

ifiwasascent · 21/10/2020 21:26

I KNEW it would be this from the title!! suffer from really bad IBS constipation and I will not touch those! Or senna it's agony!!!! Get yourself some Movocol they're so much gentler and for now just have a hot water bottle and some buscopan if you have any. The pain is worse than the constipation!!!

Elasticatedwaist · 21/10/2020 21:26

OP Dulcoease makes your poo soft. Dulcolax makes you actually poo iyswim. I would imagine the cramps are your body trying to push the poop out. Drink loads of water, it shouldn't last long. Hope you feel better soon 💐

Mrsjayy · 21/10/2020 21:30

I have a bowel condition and sometimes I need to take 1but regret taking Confused

howsicklyarsekissy · 21/10/2020 21:31

Drink Plenty of water! it tends fo be more painful /cramps if I am Not hydrated, as it uses water from your body to help move the poop.

Elasticatedwaist · 21/10/2020 21:33

I suffer from acid reflux and I’m always a bit constipated but I think I’ve failed to drink enough water last few days . Woke up this morning feeling Ill . Headache and stomachache. Feel so much worse now

I get constipation from taking iron and I usually take lactulose - utterly sickly but I have found it the most gentle. Dulcolax made me feel so so ill, really feverish and nauseous.

jessstan1 · 21/10/2020 21:36

@Elasticatedwaist

Like bloody labour pains i tell you
You will have cramps until you actually 'go'. That's quite normal when you take something to make it happen. The medicine starts peristalsis.

Yes it is like being in labour. when I was young I used to be terribly constipated and occasionally would take something to make things work. I can clearly remember the cramps coming at regular intervals :-), then I pushed.

Years later when I had a baby I felt as though I'd done it loads of times before, it was a doddle.

Strangely, I've hardly ever been constipated since becoming a mother. It just seemed to sort itself, particularly when I wasn't at work. More relaxed I suppose and eating better.

OneFootintheRave · 21/10/2020 21:39

I took this once years ago, on a Uni trip to India. Never again. Spent 5 or 6 hours pacing, half doubled up, the length of my room to cope with the horrific cramps, coming again and again in waves of agony. It was the longest night of my life and really scary. I was so glad I had my own room as other students were sharing. Just awful.

I think water would be the best thing and ride it out. Maybe if you have some Valium around it could help thought I think that is a CNS depressant and makes you constipated so would be counter productive.

I feel your pain x

Elasticatedwaist · 21/10/2020 22:10

@ifiwasascent thanks for the hot water bottle suggestion , it does seem to be easing it a bit .

BlueJag · 21/10/2020 23:11

Plenty of water and you can also try an enema to get things going.

frustrationcentral · 21/10/2020 23:16

Warm bath?

Dontsayyouloveme · 21/10/2020 23:19

You Have as be to take it before bed as it says! Not at 4pm. It’s gentler on the body when you are asleep, you’ll feel less sick also!
