Early period

Was expecting my period this Thursday but it's arrived 4 days early.

I have health anxiety which has been very bad of late. I've basically convinced myself I have ovarian cancer or something equally as awful.

I spoke to my doctor on Friday about PMT symptoms as the hormones massively affect my mood- she's prescribed the progesterone only pill. I haven't taken it yet and now I'm worried I shouldn't in case it will mask a health issue.

I should say it's 24 days since my last period started. Usually it's 28-30 days. I'm 39, overweight and have been v stressed.

Anyone talk me down? I'm sorry if I sound pathetic

I think you need support around your mental health.

Can you access CBT either through your GP or pay for it yourself?

Why would an early periods mean ovarian cancer?
OC doesn't have that symptom.

Hardly anyone has totally regular cycles so 4 days either side is actually normal. Your cycle can also vary if you are stressed.

The best thing you can do for yourself is lose weight because that is a very big risk factor for all disease including cancer in the future.

What can you do around your weight- who can support you?

stress can do funny things..I am very regular but occasionally my period does come early or later. .its not unusual and it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

"Hardly anyone has totally regular cycles so 4 days either side is actually normal. Your cycle can also vary if you are stressed."

That. If it's a one off it is nothing to worry about, just a variation. We all have them - mine were the opposite when I was young - often very, very late if I was stressed in any way.

You sound as though you need some help for your mental help, please do look into that.

I hope all is well.

I'm getting support for my mental health. As I said in my OP it's particularly bad around my period which is why I spoke to the GP last week.

Agree re weight and again have been addressing that.

Could easily be related to stress, or just normal variation.

Or, given your age it could be the start of peri-menopause. Cycles often start to vary more during peri- menopause and this can go on for years. The fluctuation in hormones can also be more extreme and affect your moods more. It's normal of course and nothing to worry about.

The mini pill may help smooth things out a bit hormonally so I would give it a try if you've been prescribed it.
