Can't eat

A week and a half ago I was prescribed naproxen for a swollen shoulder. I had a bad reaction to it after three days and couldn't keep any good or drink down. I ended up in hospital with an inflamed stomach, had a drip for rehyradration and anti emetics. I am now home on lansoprazole to keep stomach from becoming inflamed and anti sickness tablets However I can't eat. I just can't do it. The minute I put something in my mouth I feel live I'm going to heave. I have managed a couple of spoonfuls of soup and some ice lollies and that's it.

I'm starving. It feels so uncomfortable and I'm weak. It's now been nine days since I've eaten anything and I have lost 16 pounds.

Has anyone had this and then started to be able to eat normally - I'm panicking! My husband keeps saying just to force it down but I can't I've tried and it's just impossible.

Any advice/suggestions would be really appreciated.

Have you had any medical advice since you got home? Does your doctor know you still can't eat? If not, I'd get back in touch and talk to them, at the very least you may need more help with staying hydrated

HammerToFall · 14/10/2020 13:31

No I've not seen anyone since I got back, I am keeping fluids down now just not any solids. I'm trying to not go back to a&e if I can possibly help it which go suggested.

Can you try liquid food like soup or yoghurt until you get passed this? You might need to give your stomach something to work with slowly. Smoothie or nutritious milkshake even the diet ones to get some calories in.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 14/10/2020 13:33

Keep up the fluids and get some electrolytes asap.

If it's a psychological issue then just keep trying. Can you call your GP for advice?

HammerToFall · 14/10/2020 13:39

Thank you I have some Greek yoghurt I will go and try that in a minute. I'm hoping it's not psychological and just my stomach rejecting because it's so sore.

You need to go back to a&e

Swap round anti emetics there are several of them

I used simetica gel when I destroyed my tummy with anti inflammatory meds

Peptac as well

What anti emetics are you on

HammerToFall · 14/10/2020 14:06

The anti emetics are called prochlorperazine

I did swallow the yoghurt four spoonfuls but ten minutes later it came back up. I've messaged my surgery as you can't get through on the phone at the minute and have to fill in an online form. Maybe I do need a different type of anti sickness although they are helping to keep water down.

Fill in the online form
How much do you weigh can you afford to lose that much weight

Try cyclisine for me it's always Beene one of the very best anti emetics

Metoclopmeride May be of help to you as it makes the stomach empty itself more Quickly we well as being an anti emetic. This could help you with the full feeling

Re food is there anything that you would love right now that your husband could go get

I would go to a&e are you eating anything sugary at all are you feeling really weak xxx

I guess it won't harm me that much to lose some weight. I'm 5ft 4 and was 11 stone so now 9.12. I'm feeling very lethargic and haven't really been out of bed much. I don't feel full at all I have a constant hunger pain that is quite strong just struggle soon as anything hits my mouth. I did manage two fruitella chews earlier. The soup I had was tomato and I think the acid in it was irritating my already sore tummy so mum in law is making me some leek abs potato tomorrow and Dh is going to bring some sweeter yoghurts maybe fruit corners as the Greek was too sharp and made me heave.

I'm worried that there's more damage than what they have picked up on but really can't face going back to sit around for hours as sitting is especially uncomfortable as it makes the pain worse. I'll wait and see what the surgery says they are supposed to respond within 48 hours.

How about Complan shakes?
I had to take them once when I had proper ‘flu.
Definitely try and see your GP ASAP.

You need to be seen and have a scope to check you're not bleeding etc inside

Have you got blood in poo? X

sadie9 · 15/10/2020 15:12

You may need the dosage of lansasprole increased.
