Root Canal treatment... experience?

I’m going to need root canal treatment and google tells me it will take 30-90 minutes. I’m not bad in the dentist but I do find it pretty damn unpleasant and the thought of sitting there will my mouth open for the long while they vigorously root around fills me with dread. Can anyone shed any light on what it’s like? I’m wondering if they’ll let me put a podcast or some music in my ears to distract me!

Lucky you have nhs one, i am on one year waiting list for only decent nhs dentist near me, thats why i go abroad usually as cheaper and better quality work etc...the antibiotics will be for the infected root i guess...it usually works short term...i am on some for a large back molar...seem to be working but that tooth needs to come out...its been patched up and filled about 6 times now....am just delaying it !

DH had root canal a few years back, but lost the treated tooth by eating a toffee a while back.

Good luck.

First - make sure you have a good dentist who you trust! It makes all the difference.

I have had 2 root canals. One about 15 years ago. It does need replacing I'm told, but doesn't cause any pain. The other 2 years ago. I spend over £1K and ended up having to have the tooth out in the end as I had to go to a specialist endodonist as well Sad. Some teeth are more complex than others to do. I had to get a top up injection of anaesthetic midway in the treatment too.

I'm nervous of having to get another now.
