My ds (10 yrs) has been complaining of an itch around his bum which is also sore but he is too embarassed to let anyone look. Is it possible to get something over the counter at the pharmacy for it and hope for the best or should I drag him to the Gp? Your advice please.

Threadworm temmy not ringworm. You can get tablets from the chemist.

tell him to let you look or else the GP will have to.

threadworms are usually REALLY REALLY ITCHY at night so if that's his case it's probably that and the soreness is from scratching. Get the over the counter stuff.

Mine have had it but I could never see any worms...the itching was enough to convince me!!

Ovex are the tablets you are after.

You will need to treat the whole family.

and cut finger nails short and daily wash of bottom,
treated whole house hold.
itching is enough to convince me.
no bug big deal

Very likely to be worms (thread) as they're extremely common in children. I would think the best thing would be to get him to look for himself as they can often be found crawling around in poo. (Sorry)

I would get Pills from the chemist anyway, get him to cut his finger nails, and wash all the bed linen.

Get him to be extra careful about washing hands before eating and after going to the loo and get him to wear pants in bed for the next couple of days.

Thank you everyone, I must remember Threadworms not ringworms, thanks for stopping me make a fool of myself at the chemist. I know his hygiene is ........... as can be expected for someone glued to his games and will only dash to the toilet at the last minute. I will get him something first thing tomorrow.
