Kidney Infections/ Reflux in toddlers???

Just wondering if anyone has experience of this. DD is being tested at the moment, we are waiting on results of a urine sample that my doctor has sent away. Her appetite has been very up and down for the last few weeks but today and yesterday she is really off her food.
Anyone had a toddler with kidney infections or kidney reflux? My doctor has mentioned this as well.

I had recurrent uti's and kidney reflux as a young child. I recall having tests done as in an in-patient at GOSH on two occasions when I was about 3yo. I don't really remember a lot about it, other than being angry at the sedation but being totally indulged by the nurses. As for treatment, all I remember is pills, creams, and lots of bathing in Dettol. But I grew out of it. Once my kidneys had matured enough the reflux stopped and the infections did, too. I think I was about 6 or 7, but by then the infections were very infrequent.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

BTW, my kidneys do not appear to have been damaged.

mine had this, we found out when ds1 was a baby as he was rushed into hospital v poorly with an infection. ds2 was tested because ds1 had it. both were put on low dose of anitbiotics and had 6 monthly checks until they were about 4, then doc decided as they had not had any trouble they could come off abs as most children grow out of this. obv had to keep an eye for a while but they are both fine now, never really had any trouble after we found out apart from getting them to take the abs! hth

Thanks my main worry is that while we are yet again waiting on urine results she probably has an infection which my doctor has told me he will be treating as soon as it's all confirmed.
She is very up and down at the moment and is on and off her food. Feels like it has been going on forever, since the end of August.
May have to go and have her kidneys scanned, do you know what this involves? Will she be sedated for this?

its a while since mine were scanned but from what i remember they insert a catheter then put dye into the bladder. wheel them down to xray and scan while they are weeing. if they have reflux they can see the dye going back up the tubes to the kidneys instead of straight out like it should. i think they make them wee by filling the bladder but bit cloudy on that one. i think they can be sedated if necessary, mine were babies so didnt really need it - once the catheter was in they werent aware of it. a toddler might be different. its not what you would choose to be doing on a day off but i dont think its painful.

i hope you get your results soon
