Pain after sexual intercourse

Hi,

Very personal question hope you don’t mind - but I am wondering if anyone has experienced this as I am quite worried.

So I had sex this morning and shortly afterwards around 5 mins I started with cramping in my stomach probably similar to wind pains (felt kind of like a stabbing pain) and then period type pains. It made me feel awful hot and felt a bit sick too. I took some paracetamol and used a hot water bottle and was sat in a upright position but kind of bent forward. I sat like that for a good 25 minutes. They did ease off a bit and then I got in the bath and they eased off quite a lot. The pain was quite intense.

Now I am feeling like I’ve been punched in my stomach, around the lower abdomen and inside where you have sex ( sorry TMI). Feel very bruised and when I move I can feel it like a bruised, sore feeling. Also, getting fast, short, mild, twinge pains in my sides near my ribs.

I’m wondering has anyone ever had this?
Thank you

Good grief, op. That's awful! Could you be ovulating? Having sex might have kicked it off. I used to have significant discomfort when I ovulated. I'm also thinking a possible ovarian cyst.

SL94xx · 03/10/2020 16:23

Hi, no unfortunately it’s not ovulation as I’m actually due on my period but I’m a few days late. My periods are sometimes like this. I feel worn out now, feels as if I’ve been battered in my stomach if that makes sense Sad I am too scared to move lots in case it hurts again. Confused as to what it could be. Thank you. I have a scan soon as I’m always feeling sick with pains in my belly but that was different. Thank you xx

Hi there, I have experienced this myself and it was due to the fact that I have stage 4 endometriosis. I have endo lesions on my bowel, bladder and at the time also had a cyst on each ovary.
Definitely worth discussing with your GP. You will likely find other times you can have sex without issue but also that this will happen again unexpectedly.
This was the final and one to the worst occurrences for me prior to undergoing a laparoscopy where they diagnosed the endo and removed the cysts. I haven't had this problem since (surgery March 2019)
Do you get very painful periods? Might be worth mentioning endo suspicion to the Dr if so. Hope you are feeling

moonsurferpig · 03/10/2020 16:41

Just saw you mentioned you do get bad periods and have a scan coming up. Defo mention endo to your Dr or when you are scanned as it seems a plausible explanation and endometriosis is rather common unfortunately but can often be well managed. Good luck

Apologies for multiple posts! Just wanted to add that I don't suffer any day to day issues with my endo atm and wouldn't know it was there most of the time so please don't worry about my suggestion that is it this. I'm currently 8 months pregnant too so everything can work out just fine Thanks

Hey.
I’ve never experienced this type of pain before. I do get really heavy periods for the first 3-4 days then goes very light and then stops. I get period pains extremely bad too. My ex partner cheated on me and I hadn’t found out until around 6 months later that he gave me chlamydia and I’m thinking has it effected me inside? When I had it it used to hurt me having sex and still does sometimes now even thought I have got rid of it and been tested for it and I was clear. I’ve had pain after sex before as in like cramping and feeling bruised but not as bad as that. The pain near my ribs felt like awful wind cramps and then all over stabbing pains in my lower abdomen. Thank you for sharing with me. I suffer with health anxiety so things like this worry me xx

I used to have this to the point I'd be sweating, shaking and vomiting too...
I was later diagnosed with endometriosis and also had ovarian cysts, also experienced similar pain if one of them burst.
I'd be looking into talking to your GP for a gyne referral.

Just seen your last message, you could have PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) from long term chlamydia. I also had this and had to have 2 weeks of intense antibiotics... Good luck OP!

CausingChaos2 · 03/10/2020 17:03

I’ve also had excruciating pain from an ovarian cyst. Am used to bad period pain but this was awful too. Sounds like it could be worth seeing a doctor? Cysts can be diagnosed from an ultrasound scan although endometriosis would need to be investigated by lap. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for all your posts. I am going to ring my doctor on Monday morning and ask if they can refer me to someone to see what’s going on. It hurt having a wee too felt like it was bruised. Yous have put my at ease now knowing that this actually a thing. I thought I needed to go to hospital or something and I have children so was really worried. Thank you xxx

Sorry to ask, but was it rough? Did it hurt at the time? Google bruised cervix and see if that fits.

I have a tilted cervix, my DP is big (the biggest I've had, at least) and as a result of those two bits of bad luck, if things get too heated or rough, he's pumping away right against my cervix, and that can hurt quite a bit, both during and after.

It's absolutely possible to be injured with rough sex, but obviously any severe or persistent pain should be checked out.

moonsurferpig · 03/10/2020 18:02

In regards to the sickness question, I did yes. On occasion with my painful periods I would vomit Confused

SL94xx · 03/10/2020 22:36

Sorry guys! Been doing uni work just caught up with these messages now. It actually wasn’t rough. When we were having sex I kept feeling a pain in my right side of my abdomen. I’ve felt this pain before. I kind of moved a bit and it went but I’m unsure what that is. Sex does sometimes hurt me, it feels as I’ve I’m bruised inside. It just really depends on how up for how (I can’t think of a way to say this) excited I am haha. Now when I am actually going to the toilet for a wee it’s hurting inside when I’m actually passing urine. I definitely think it’s time for a trip to my doctor and see what he suggests. Really hard to get an appointment at the moment with this lockdown!! Yes, the pain was really bad afterwards today I felt like I was going to vomit myself, that was like pain vomit, the sweating and shaking. Thank you for your shares and thoughts. It’s really appreciated xxx

Could it be bladder pain? Maybe a bladder infection?
