Tonsil cyst?

Hi everyone

I’m a newbie here and was looking for some advice from anyone who has any experience with tonsil cysts. In fact I’m looking for some reassurance if I’m honest. I’ve had this white/yellowish spot on my tonsil for some time now. The GP has referred me to ENT and penicillin hasn’t been effective. It definitely is t a tonsil stone so I’m wondering if it’s a cyst. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m starting to worry. Thank you!

PS: can ago e tell me how to attach a photo? Smile

If you click on the paper clip it will let you add a pic.

I had what ENT described as something like empty cyst cases on my tonsils, they were white-ish, and I also had some clear blister-like cysts, which the consultant reassured me were perfectly harmless. I do think I also had tonsil stones right inside my tonsils too, what makes you think that it's definitely not tonsil stones, as they are yellowy white?

I had a lump on one of my tonsils. Saw ENT who said needed to come out. So had a one sided tonsillectomy, taking the cyst/lump and the affected tonsil. Pathology showed that was Actinomycosis, which is pretty rare, so good that came out and nothing more sinister. I had a referral from GP on two week pathway because was unexplained lump.

Wish that they’d taken both, but the logic was that one side looked healthy, and with a full tonsillectomy they would be exposing the open wound under the healthy side to Potential infection from the other side.

Sorry guys, I don’t see a paperclip to add a pic. Is this maybe because I am a new member?

I found it but it won’t let me upload as I’m a newbie!

Thank you all for your replies. I will try and get the pic up tomorrow

@TabbyStar it has a film over and won’t budge when I poke with a cotton bud. I’m wondering if it is a cyst as the penicillin doesn’t seem to be working so I doubt it is an infection.

Hmm, I ask because I think I had what were tonsil stones that wouldn't budge, so I wouldn't 100% rule it out. My tonsils were a mess from repeated tonsillitis when I was younger but my DM didn't want them taken out. I did have them out as an adult eventually because they were so scuzzy!

I’d had repeated bouts of tonsillitis in the years leading up to the op - never as a child. The tonsils were just a scarred pitted infection magnet.

Not had tonsillitis at ALL in the five years since, and that was with just ONE being taken out. Best thing ever.

Hi, I know this was last year but I am in a similar situation now with almost the exact same looking cyst. I went to the dr today and they have said its nothing sinister, no lumps in my next and I am not unwell. I have another appt in 2 weeks. I am panicking but the Dr wants to know what it is but not too worried.

My husband had the same thing- it was a viral infection caused by tonsil stones. The gp didn't know what it was either so he had an ent appointment who diagnosed it. He told him to gargle with a mouthwash that contains hydrogen peroxide (you can get it from Boots), perhaps you could try that to see if it helps?

emsdeedoo · 10/05/2021 12:51

Hi, thank you for getting bank to me. It’s just so strange as I don’t feel unwell I’m just aware it’s there so i focus on it if that makes sense. I’m constantly looking at it and prodding it. It is a hard little lump it’s strange. I’m going to try the mouthwash and my dr is checking in with me in 2 weeks to see what to do next

Hi any updates? I’m thinking I may have a cyst as well it’s not really on my tonsil sort of above on the arch near my tonsil if that makes sense. Also seen a doctor who in 3 seconds of looking said it’s was a tonsil stone but it’s been 3+ weeks with no change also seems to be starting on in the same spot on the other side. Very worried. Just wondering if the mouth wash worked ?
